Notes/Commercial Description:
We have turned our brew house into a brewer’s playground with the introduction of our Craft Beer Exploration Series called Mad & Noisy Brewing, named after the two rivers that merge and flow through the village of Creemore. Hops & Bolts India Pale Lager is the first release in our ever changing series of imaginative, innovative, and delicious craft concoctions. A Czech twist on an English IPA it takes the best components of a lager and an ale and rivets them together to build a beer much greater than the sum of its parts.

Purchased at the LCBO 473ml can for just under $3.00. Served at 5deg C in a draught glass.

A- Excellent! Opens very well with a nice 1" head tapering to a film quickly

S- Not the most hops but hops are there that's for sure.

T- Excellent! Enjoying this lighter IPL very much. Nice carbonation. All an IPA can be with less hops really.

M- Excellent! Enjoying the bite with creaminess.

O- Very good. Looking forward to trying this on tap one day. Will buy again as something different. Not a lot but again.

Food Pairing

This nice light IPL went well with... Spicy tuna

Enjoy

One of the better lagers that I've enjoyed in the past year, although an India Pale Lager is not a style that i've ever heard of before now.

It was a lot darker-- deep amber-- than I was expecting and despite the "60 IBU" stamp on the label, I thought it was more bitter than it was going to be, too.

I have to say that it was a fine effort, although I still prefer my west coast IPAs to this Eastern IPL.

Can: Poured a light amber/orangey color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light citrus hops notes with light dry crisp malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry and subtle citrus hops with some light dry and crisp malt. Body is about average with good carbonation. A bit light on the hops side for my taste but well brewed nonetheless.

Pours a lightly hazy orange with a big, foamy cap that drapes the glass in lace. Citrusy and herbal hop notes and wet grains in the nose. Bready maltiness with a tad of astringency up front with the hoppiness quickly following suit in the first sip. some grapefruit and woodiness in the hop profile, and a good amount of somewhat coarse bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a high level of carbonation.

A good lager, but a bit of an astringent off flavor (perhaps a wierd form of hop bitternesss?) that doesn't ruin the beer but detracts. Still worth a try.

Pours a nice amber colour, very slight cloudiness. Nice restrained carbonation, off white hued head. Sharp hoppiness at first whiff then a lager-like malt note. Flowery and bitter right out of the gate upon first sip, more "ale-ish" than I expected, some malt sweetness backing it up but mostly hop bitters. Thin mouthfeel doesn't detract. Finishes long and hoppy...if you like the more bitter lagers or a milder IPA then this is up your alley. A nice surprise as I wasn't expecting too much from this.
