We have turned our brew house into a brewer’s playground with the introduction of our Craft Beer Exploration Series called Mad & Noisy Brewing, named after the two rivers that merge and flow through the village of Creemore. Hops & Bolts India Pale Lager is the first release in our ever changing series of imaginative, innovative, and delicious craft concoctions. A Czech twist on an English IPA it takes the best components of a lager and an ale and rivets them together to build a beer much greater than the sum of its parts.

Slightly hazy deep gold with a nice head and lacing. Mostly malts on the nose. Medium body, light on hops with a refreshing lager crispness.

Pour is nice, orange gold with a nice two fingers of head. Head has good retention, and on break leaves a nice cap and collar with quite good lacing.

Smell is crackery malts and some thin hops. After it warms a little, some caramel malt comes through, but really, it's a little dull.

Taste is definitely malt led. Bready and biscuity. The hops are much more present on the palate, the bitter taking away from the sweet I usually experience in a lager.

Feel is about medium weight, with medium but firm carbonation. Finish is bitter and leaves a bit of a wet feel.

I'd have to say this is a fair beer. Not something I would consider having again. The bitter from the additional hops makes the difference for this beer, were it not there the scores would be even lower.

fortunately they rebranded this one from the can pictured here, it looks a bit more grown up now, which i think really probably helps. the beer is an idea to fuse a czech pils type lager with an english pale or ipa type, and the result is somewhat less interesting than it sounds like it should be. there are more hops in this by far than any other beer i had from creemore springs, not even close, and this is without a doubt their boldest offering that i experienced from them on my trip. its copper colored, fragrantly hoppy, balanced by sweet bready english crystal malts, and has been crisped up in the finish by their house lager yeast, which to me isnt the most exciting strain in the world, but it does its job well enough here. i get more of the english grain than i need, and i think the bitterness is a little excessive, but its flavorful, which is a turn on to me among some of the more mild creemore lagers. a warming nutty middle gives it a wintery vibe which works with the season, as does a pine note in the hops. this beer is a little confused, but its something different and i found it enjoyable enough. not rushing back to find this again, but its a cool stab at something new. a more flavorful lager yeast would make this more compelling...

I brought a can of this back from Hamilton, ON last January whilst in Canada for my son's hockey tournament. It poured a slightly hazy amber with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had hints of bitter pine. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink....somewhat English leaning. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a good beer.
