This is probably my favorite beer name:

McGuires Ill Have What the Gentleman on the Floor is Having Barley Wine

On tap at Florida Brewers Guild Fest 2007. Pours a deep copper with lasting tan head. Sweet malt and dark fruit aroma. Flavor is smooth and drinkable with semi sweet pine hops, roasted malts, dark fruit and a hint of maybe pale malts. Slight sense of the ABV.

12/02/06 Walk the Line Barleywine Festival, Dunedin, FL. 2001 vintage sample from a keg. Hazy amber color with tan head. First sense of the aroma seemed to be oak or vanilla. My second sniff didn't pick that up at all. The aroma became more sweet malts and dark fruitiness. Really soft hop flavor with some malt sweetness and fruitiness. This one seems like it just recently passed its prime.

The 2000 sampled from a keg actually tasted a bit brighter with more assertive hoppiness and fruity cherry/grape flavor than the 2001.

The 1997 sampled from a keg had no head and almost no aroma. The flavor was nice though and I thought the best of the three. There was a toffee note that mixed well with the dark grape fruitiness and hops.

had this last week and was delighted. i'm glad i'll be in pensacola in a couple weeks so i can have it again.

the beer was nothing special to look at. typical of a barleywine. the lighting is not the best in there, so color is a tough call. browinish-red i'd say.

the smell is of pitted fruits and a touch of hoppieness.

the taste is very clean. it is pretty much english style with hops only barely present. i'm going to take better notes and update my review in a couple weeks.

the mouthfeel is medium to full with a decent bit of carbonation.

i'm not sure the abv on this, but it sure does drink easy. i'll have a couple next time i go back.

i had with mine the bar-b-que ribs. superb.

edit: this beer is still being brewed but appears to have gone seasonal. mike, the brewmaster, brought a keg of it to the big bob's barleywine tasting. it was actually a portion of a batch that was made and part of it aged in jack daniel's barrels.

I had the barleywine on the ol tap at the Destin location in Sep 2006. I remember it well! It came to me with a dark mahogany color, a litle bit heads of froth and smelled very complex. Roasted a little, some toffee and blasts of fruit and more..The alcohol was smooth and apparent at 12 ABV but not overpowering. It went down amazingly smooth, like syrup and flavir stuck around and around. Went well with the prime rib!!!
