On tap for The Bruery Sucreversary held at The Phoenix Club in Anaheim, CA.

Pours a hazy reddish-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with toast and caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but has a slightly better smell in my opinion.

On tap at Tustin Brewing.

A: Dark reddish brown with a small white head.

S: Pronounced bread with a light nuttiness. Caramel accompanies toasted biscuit and earth.

T: Rich caramel and bread with a moderate sweetness and a toasted biscuit aspect. This is malt dominant, with a low level of bitterness and a nondescript hop flavor.

M: Upper medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A solid malty red ale, if you're in the mood for such a beer.

On-tap at Tustin

A: A very typical looking beer for the style. A clear, copper/amber color with a fluffy off-white head.

S: A lot of caramel malt with a bit of fruity esters, but no hop aroma to speak of.

T: The flavor also lacks the hop character that I enjoy in a red ale. The sweetness is the main flavor in the beer, but it's somehow not overwhelming. There is also a bit of chocolate and creaminess that I wasn't quite expecting.

M: The body is medium and there is a moderate level of carbonation which probably helps to minimize the sweetness.

D: Certainly not the most amazing beer I've ever had, but a good one to enjoy and seemingly moderate in terms of ABV. I would say that this beer is more of an amber ale due to its sweetness, but I suppose we're getting very semantic by going there.

On tap at the Tustin Brew Pub in Tustin, CA.

Poured a deeper amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, lots of maltiness, and I was getting some toasted graininess. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, and the same toasted grains.

On-tap during happy hour, on to the beer:

Deep copper appearance with some brownish hues, this brew is cloying sweet with little else in character. Strong maltiness goes nowhere with a shade of esters. Somewhat astringent malt, hops are nowhere to be found, and the salty aftertaste is unpleasant. I didn't want to be rude, so I forced myself to finish the pint. Not a beer I'd go back to unless they hop it up.

Consumed 04/14/08.

Clear, dark coppery hue. No head at all.

Aroma of cat piss.

Sweet flavor profile: malty. A bit of a light, fruity character. No bitterness (odd for a red ale) to speak of and lack of carbonation keeps the flavor from being fully savored. There is some mild astringency on the finish.

Almost there - some Cascade hop character would have made this memorable.
