This beer poured out as a clear looking golden copper color. The head was pretty good at first and settled into just a think white film over the beer. The smell of this beer was really nice, Lots of hoppy aromas and some vanilla perhaps? The taste of the beer has a pretty good amount of hoppy flavors. The beer is a little on the sweet side too, not what I was really expecting from a IIPA. The mouthfeel was good, had a nice medium oily body, very easy to drink. Overall this beer was good, not sure if i'll ever come across it again but if I do I'll give it another try.

Beer on draft, served in a wine glass. Beer is amber with a wispy white head of nothingness and some lacing on the glass. Interesting. Low carbonation.

Aroma is really strong with bourbon and malt, smells good!

Beer is sweet and only moderately hoppy and bitter. There is some late bitterness but it is mild and has some oak in there as well. The liquor character comes through well in this one, rounding the whole beer out nicely. I like it overall. An interesting one and not a bad barrel-aged IPA.

On tap at SAVOR 2011. Served in a goblet.

Pours a nice copper color with a small, off-white head and some average lacing on the way down. Spotty with a thin collar. The nose carries a good amount of bourbon and oak. Light tannin and wood. Not much hop character. The flavor is all bourbon and oak with a bit of vanillin. Not bad, but the hop character is pretty much gone, other than the bitterness in the finish. Medium body and a bit of sweetness with light carbonation. Interesting concept; fairly well executed.

A: The beer is hazy amber orange in color and poured with a thin layer of off white bubbles covering the surface that left some lacing.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of grapefruit in the nose.
T: Quite similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of citrus and pine resin from the hops and some hints of caramel malts. A moderate amount of bitterness is present, which particularly stands out in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation and has some warming from the alcohol and dryness in the finish.
O: The beer is rather easy to drink for the style because the taste is well balanced and doesn’t have an overpowering amount of bitterness. The alcohol is well masked from the taste.

Got this from the Trinity Brewhouse after hearing good things about it. Let's give it a go...

A: Pours a murky copper color with a tiny white head that fades quickly to a small lace on the sides of the beer. Decent.

S: Smells of a nice blend of sweet citrus and bitter hop upfront. Some mild hints of tropical fruits in the middle. So well blended it's hard to pick out all of the scents. Good.

T: Has a nice earthy hop with a nice breadiness balancing it out. A nice citrus in the middle with a booze burn on the back. This is a hop bomb balances out with some bready malt and a booze backbone. Good.

M: Full body with a fantastic carbonation! A very dry finish. Very good.

D: Goes down good. A little booze burn, but good.

All in all, this is a great DIPA to try if you have access. A little boozy and very dry, but super tasty! Glad I got to try and a growler of it will be happily enjoyed.

Poured from a growler...thanks Sean for your generosity!!!

Pours hazy bright orange color with a small tan head that remains as a blanket layer. Smell is certainly has some grapefruit and pine. Nice honey/malt backbone.

The taste is well integrated. All of the above comes through in the flavor ending with a long dry slightly bitter aftertaste which turns slightly sweet at the very end. Pretty tasty. A little alcohol comes through at the end as well but at 9.5% I'd expect that.

The mouthfeel is smooth and silky. Mild/medium carbonation. Really a nice beer and dangerously drinkable.

A: Deep amber color. Poured a 1 finger off-white head that dissipated to a thick skim. :Laced in thick rings.

S: Citrus, pine and grapefruit along with grassy hops. Big, bready malt and crystal malt aromas.

T: Sweet, bready malt and caramel malt. Citrus and resiny pine linger along with light sweetness to bitter finish. Alcohol, but muted relative to ABV.

M: Medium body. Moderate carbonatoin. Smooth in the middle to a resiny bitter finish.

D: Big malts and big hops. Disguises the ABV pretty well. Flavorful drink for sure.

This beer poured a mahogany body with a small off-white head.

Nose has a strong citric hop and EKG hop smell. Big caramel whiffs as well, but mostly dominated by that unique ekg type hop smell.

Taste is thick, but not overly full bodied. Very rich with loads of big chewy malt and caramel. Hops are then extremely present but not overbareing. EKG, lots of strong astringent resin and citric flavors. Grapefruit, pine, lots of resin. Has a very bitter aftertaste. Hop bitterness balances the beer well.

What a great beer. Sort of like just an amped up RI IPA. Honestly they taste almost identical. Big and malty, huge and hoppy, but perectly balanced. Not a pallate killer. Fabulous beer.

On-tap 6/22/10 at the brewpub Providence, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dark amber color, short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of fruity citrus, caramel, grassy hops and hearty malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of citrus and caramel that are quickly followed by a strong burst of piney hops bitterness. The malt character is hearty and there's a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Very tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, it might not be the best 2IPA but it's a nice stronger beer to drink for a whole evening.

Growler shared by Lance - thanks!

Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a one-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells great - loads of citrus and tropical fruit hop aromas backed by very mild pale malts. Also present are mild amounts of herbal hops that are more prevalent as the beer warms.

Tastes similar to how it smells, although the hops aren't as robust. Pale malt flavors kick things off and are overrun almost immediately by large amounts of tropical fruit, citrus, and herbal hop flavors, in that order. The hops carry through to a slightly boozy and mildly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass easily and could have a few more with no problems.

Overall I was very impressed with the nose of this beer however the flavor was just a bit of a let down. Still, a very good DIPA and one worth trying should it cross your path.

Slight chill hazed blood orange in appearance with a near white head. Ripe peach aroma with some big tropical fruit as well as sweet tangerine and navel orange. Very pleasant smell. Citric up front, then mellow passion fruit hop flavor. Slight bitterness in the middle finishing dry. Hard to detect any malt, which is fine with me. This sneaks up on you towards the end, as she turns into a palate coater. Crazy drinkability...11%?! Very nice IIPA.

No head when brought to the table. There was some clingy lace sticking to glass. Cloudy orange-amber color. My wife describes it as "pretty."

very mild smell for the style; there's none of the pungeant bitter hop aroma that I would expect from a DIPA.

Good bitter flavor and no sign of the 10% alcohol. Makes this one dangerous. Thick bodied with a very long aftertaste. A very easy to drink powerful beer.

*this beer is not retired, it is currently on tap and I got a growler today*

Review 400. It was going to Masala Mama but that review is in the notebook, and I think I'm enjoying this one more anyways. 64oz growler into chouffe tulip.

Big shout out to the BA community at large, all my trading and tasting buddies, and the bros. This one's for you.

A- Rich caramel, minimal head, thin bubbles on the surface and some spotty lacing. Coloration is divine, would have liked to see more head but @ ~10% growler I understand.

S- Intense hops. Pine resin, mango/pineapple/grapefruit, unapologetic and unabashed. I could get lost in the nose.

T- Again, hoppy. It might be a freshness-related thing, but this thing is hoppier than 95% of the DIPAs I've come across. Intense, face-smacking hops. Nice caramel malt backbone. You know what? This also has a hint of earthy, grassy hops and a fairly strong malt-- this is an English IIPA. Do those exist? Well, that's what this one is. Fantastic and unlike most IIPAs I've tasted. Multi-faceted hops. Orange/grapefruit sugary sweetness and a nice smack of pine new-growth.

M- Would have liked more carbonation. Great malt balance, not too sweet but helps focus the immense hop bill.

D- Fairly high, and very enjoyable. I heard great things about this one and it was all true. I am going to pick up some growlers and send them off to some buddies next time, as I know this beer is one most hop heads will enjoy. A world-class IIPA... and it's not the local in me talking. Again perhaps its a freshness issue, but this beer is drinking splendidly.

Without a doubt the best IPA I've ever had. The hop aroma is out of this world. In between sips I would just keep sniffing the glass it was that good. The smooth flavor belies its purported 150 IBUs, though perhaps it was because I had it with their awesome buffalo wings (great combo). At 11% I could only manage two pints. Unfortunately this is a limited edition, anniversary brew. Get it while you can.

Wow, had this one today at the brew house. Saw 150 IBU on the menu and I was in love. This is a great tasting IPA anyone in the RI should make the trip to taste. The bartender said it was a limited brew for their 16th anniversary and only 16 bbl or bll brewed, I dunno. I knew it was definitely a delicious beer so I also grabbed a Growler heehe.

A- A little foam, very nice copper color and a brilliant cloudy appearance.

S- Wicked hops smell, fills the pallet with the smell.

T- One of the better imperial IPAs I've had on tap. Great bitter taste 150 on the IBUs. Delicious taste for the more experienced craft beer drinker and of course the 10%ABV doesn't help.

M- Lower carbonation helps with tasting the hops a little more. Medium body and nice after taste.

D- I had a pint at the brew house, then tried another draft and instantly went back to the Imperial IPA. Absolutely worth trying if you are in RI.

16th anniversary IPA with extra hops, check it out!

A: Deep hazy copper, with a faint head that leaves behind some okay lacing.

S: Huge grapefruit and floral hops.

T: Big sweet hoppy flavor full of what the nose would lead on. Great hop taste all around. Not boozy at all either.

M: Medium bodied, a kind of smoothness that makes it even more enjoyable.

D: Could drink this stuff all night, watch out for the high ABV, though.

They had the "Cask Imperial IPA" on tap this past Wednesday (2/3/2010).

The apperance was a dark copper/red color with very foggy pour. It had a very thin, creamy head.

The smell was malty, and hops.

The taste presented a strong HOP presense immediatley off the top, followed by a very floral, "oak-ey", and continued hop presense.

A low amount of carbonation (which is perfect), and served at room temperature.

I have had several Trinity brews, and this one is clearly the best I've ever had there. A real winner from Trinity!
