Had on tap from the brewery @ Beervana.

It came with a darker orange nectarine color, somewhat hazy, with a slight lacing on the sides.

Nose has a nice blend of bourbon, oak, and hops. A nice malty backbone, with some light sweetness. In front of that is plenty of nice hops, some citrus and tropical fruit hops, little pine, some earthy, and good bitterness. And then of course some nice bourbon aromas, with a little oak and vanilla.

The taste, pure awesomeness. THis is essentially the perfect blend of IPA and bourbon. Reminds me a lot of Hand of Doom by FOunders. Starts with nice hops, again all around hops. SOme citrus, little tropical fruit, some pine, light grassy even, and an overall nice strong bitterness. This is rounded with a great bourbon flavor. It's not overpowering in bourbon, just enough to edge the sharp hops and give a beautiful flavor. Also is some light oak and woody esthers, with a little vanilla. Some sweet malty backbone as well, a little caramel, and ever so slightly toasty. Also a slight fruity Belgian yeast quality somewhere in there. All these beautiful flavors dance well together. As it finishes it dries a bit, leaving a nice long bitterness that isn't overpowering, but lets you continue tasting the beer for a while. After that the bourbon sets in initially but dies off leaving the hops to continue their work.

The mouth is medium bodied with decent carbonation.

Surprisingly it has pretty good drinkability for all the hops and bourbon in it. Not much of an alcohol bite, and the hops play well as they are rounded off by the oak and bourbon.

RIPTA- Rhode Island Pale Tripel Ale- aged in Bourbon Barrels. Poured by Sean the brewer @ Beervana. Good stuff.

A- This beer is a touch darker than the regular RIPTA. Nice lacing, heavy hops leave my glass with lace.

S- Nose is like candy on this one. Sweet tangerines, oranges, and molasses on the nose.

T- Simply breathtaking. Really have not seen too many beers benefit from barrel aging like this one. The vanilla and oaky bourbon notes blend very well with the belgian yeast flavors and the spicy hops are a great compliment to all the other flavors. There's a hint of pine sap but it's not terribly bitter. I liked the base beer and the bourbon barrel really smooths out the agressive hops and the earthiness that I found in the regular RIPTA.

M- Full mouthfeel without being too heavy, no sign of ABV, which is very impressive.

D- Fairly high, I hope this becomes a regular at Trinity as this is my favorite beer of theirs by far. This one really surprised me.
