Pours out a murky dried apricot with a surprisingly thin head for a hefeweizen. Aroma leans more towards banana than clove, but I pick up a distracting amount of toast (crystal malts?). Flavor has the right hefeweizen yeast character. Lots of banana and bubblegum with the clove more in the background. VERY SWEET. This actually reminds me of banana Laffy Taffy. Maltier than your typical wheat beer. I long for drier, crackery malt and grain in this. Mouthfeel is a bit heavy and full for my tastes, with sharp yet almost absent carbonation. It needs more fluffiness in the mouth. Overall, the flavor isn't bad, it's just missing the mark quite a bit. SUGAR BOMB.

12 oz bottle pours an opaque orange color with a large-bubbled white head. Leaves a little to be desired on he retention and lace.

Sweet bubblegum yeast, a little clove and less banana. Wheat is there, but more soft than crisp.

Wheat snaps back more in the flavor and the sweetness retreats to the background. The yeast does not throw down as many phenols as I would like to see, more clove and banana please! Mouthfeel is soft and full, one of the beers best attributes. Its not bad, but I think Real Ale should be able to make a better hefe than this. Middling at best.

Appearance: Classic hazy golden body, crowned with a moderate white head, which fades all too quickly. Thin, fine-beaded lacing clings tto the glass walls in scattered patches.

Aroma: Grassy hops and banana esters mingle with a strong spicy and bready wheat backbone.

Taste: Opens with pronounced ripe banana and clove flavors, riding atop a solid bready and spicy wheat backbone. There is even a hint of bubblegum flavor. As the taste the banana notes intensify slightly, becoming the dominant characteristic of the taste, with the spicy wheat and cloves as a backdrop. The close of the taste is quite graceful, with a mild hop presence serving as a closing flourish.

Mouth feel: Full, with somewhat sharp carbonation carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: A really nice example of the Hefeweizen style, quite true to its German antecedents, and delightfully fresh, with a "best if consumed by" date of "05.22.14". Recommended, needless to say.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

A: Pours a beautiful hazed golden/yellow color. A large pillowing, white head rises in an instant with excellent retention. Plenty of lace.
S: Initially, this is an outstanding nose. Big bursts of yeast, banana fruity esters, spicy clove. Then, in just as quickly fades to nothing. A bit of cereal grains and then nothing.
T: The fruity esters are not as big as I was thinking, which is not a bad thing. Light banana and spice. Grainy and cereal like malts. Nothing lingers, and no big pop of flavor the better examples of the style have.
M/D: A light body with moderate to high carbonation. Bubbly, but light and thin. Easy to drink. Certainly something to drink when the temps start to rise.

Not bad at all, just a little on the bland side. Nothing pops, and not nearly the bright clean character of say Live Oak or Weisse Versa. It sucks that those are the competition here cause this might stand out a little more. I will certainly enjoy my sixer, but not something I will take over the other two.
