Pours out a hazy dark brown, almost black, with red highlights. Smells chocolaty, with lots of earthy, herbal, grassy hops. Taste is very sweet, with lots of chocolate malt. Lots of fruity esters, as well; almost like gummy candy in its flavor. Solid, lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin, compared to what is going on with the flavor, and considering the alcoholic heft. Overall, this is decent, but nothing to go crazy about.

From the 12 ounce can into a teku.

A- Big, frothy, dark-khaki-colored head with large carbonation bubbles. Body is pitchblack and thus obviously opaque. The head is very persistent and leaves streaks of lace everywhere.

S- Spicy hops and a rye-like aroma. Dark roasted malts and a hint of dark chocolate are just beneath the heavier hop aromas. Something like burnt toast is present too.

T- A thick, deep coffee and dark chocolate flavor stand out up front. A combination of piney hops and orange juice citrus then work their way into the picture. There are many dimensions to this flavor, as I'm getting some sweet malt and caramel and a flavor that reminds me of an orange chocolate cordial. A burnt caramel flavor melds with the citrus on the finish and sits there.

M-Has a slightly spicy feel to it. Medium-body. Some sweetness and grapefruit rind bitterness that lingers. Light to mid carbonation, but drinks with a heavy viscosity.

This is a damn good Black IPA. Right up there with the best in style.

Pours a dark brown with a half inch tan head that dissipates into plenty of lacing on the glass. A very interesting beer to say the least. The nose and taste starts of fruity and hoppy like an IPA and finishes with roasted malts. Very drinkable, medium bodied, and smooth. Not really bitter or sticky. A very nice collaboration brew and huge thanks to @jdotswizz for this one.

The appearance is sinister black.

Right off the bat you get a very nice citrus aroma with some malt sweetness in the background.

The first thing I notice on the taste is a porter like roastiness and semi-sweet malt flavors that are fantastic. Then, here come the pine and citrus hops that really bring everything in check.

The mouthfeel starts out creamy with moderate carbonation. The finish is very nice with a lingering semi-sweet citrus flavor.

Overall, this is one fantastic offering from Real Ale. The balance of flavors on this beer is fantastic. Nothing is dominating as it all really works well together.
