Formerly "Shade Grown Coffee Porter".
Born from owner Brad Farbstein’s homebrewing experiments in college — our porter is a rich, robust ale with a dry finish. Fresh, cold-brewed organic fair trade coffee courtesy of Katz Coffee in Houston, TX is added just prior to packaging. Our most popular seasonal release, it’s a whole new way to enjoy your coffee with breakfast, lunch or dinner.
A rich, robust porter with a dry finish. Brewed with organic hops, malted barley, and Ruta Maya Shade Grown organic coffee beans from Chiapas, Mexico.

Love me some Porter and this is really good, too bad it’s seasonal but it makes it worth the wait

Bottle. The nose smells like fresh green coffee. Very nice. The flavor is also coffee, with some caramel in the back. More like a coffee'd scotch ale than a coffee porter. The mouthfeel is a little syrupy.

Grabbed this single for $2.49, so let’s see how it stacks up. A near black body with a one finger tan head. Nice lacing throughout. Smell was a slightly tinny roasted malt aroma with some coffee notes. I tasted the roasted malts plus coffee, along with a nice, lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel was just a bit light to my taste and I would have dialed down the carbonation some. Overall, it presents itself as a drinkable coffee Porter. Not earth shattering, but a good value and an enjoyable beer for the price.

L-Cola-like body with a three and a half fingered head. The head dissipates a finger or two and then stays for a while. Frothy in nature–a bit rocky. Some carbonation.
S-Nice and rich roasted coffee, some smokiness. Exactly what it advertises to be. A bit of toasted malt as well. Some cracker.
T-Delicately light throughout. Some roasted coffee flavor, sweet malts and a lightly bitter finish. Toned down for sure.
F-Watery. Slight carbonation.
O-Not bad at all. Decently refreshing, but lacking in overall presence and body. If someone gave this to me, I'd surely drink it, but I'm not sure if I'd buy it again.

A dark brew with a thin tan head. It smells faintly of coffee, not bitter more phenolic. Medium to full body but falling a bit flat for a porter. The phenolic flavor is a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was the coffee I had earlier or the best before date being two weeks ago. Average at best, but I would be willing to try a fresh one in the future.

L: Pours a super dark brown, approaching black in color; accompanied by a bitchin two-finger beige head.
S: Upfront you can definitely catch the coffee aromas, has a roasty aroma from the malts, chocolate & hops.
T: Once again, the coffee is very upfront, but it's good. Nice roasted flavor, somewhat bitter, but the chocolate flavor balances out.
F: Medium-full bodied, low carbonation, subtly warming.
O: The coffee is all there, but that is what we asked for. I would certainly enjoy one of these again!

a way solid porter that happens to have been blessed by a coffee bean priest.
the focus is really more of the caramel and chocolate drenched barley malts that have been pleasantly roasted and carry a a dose of molasses and cream along for the ride.
it's an easy and uncomplicated sipper, perfect for the season.

Served on tap in pint glass
Appearance- The beer is served a deep brown nearly black color with a one finger head of tan foam. The head fades fast leaving a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell -. The aroma of the brew is strongest of a roasted malt, caramel, and light coffee smell. Along with these aromas comes a little bit of toast and a touch of creme and vanilla.
Taste - The taste is similar to the nose. It begins with a sweet caramel and dark taste of roasted malt. There is a good showing of molasses as well with only a light coffee upfront. As the taste advances the coffee and sweet amp up a bit and at the end of the taste leave one with a malty and toasty, and slightly sweet and coffee taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is lower. For the dark and roasted tastes of the brew the feel is good and makes for a robust sipper.
Overall - A decently toasty and sweet and moderatly coffee taste to linger on the tongue. Overall pretty nice.
