Thanks davacano for this bottle from the Refreshing Summer BIF.

Real Ale Lost Gold IPA is a golden apricot beer with a quickly leveling white head that leaves just a wisp on the edge of the glass. There is a little bit of sediment that leaves just a bit of haze. The beer smells slightly piney with orange peel and a fair bit of malt. The beer is resinous at first with a sweet tangerine juice middle and a lingering bitterness at the end. There is a little bit of sweet malty caramel, but overall, dry. The hop flavor in this beer is definitely underwhelming for an American IPA, when Blind Pig and Sculpin are in the same category. The beer is pretty solid, but not great, but I'll definitely enjoy another.

Sampled on tap at the Freetail-Real Ale barrel-aged festival in San Antonio.

The beer pours a golden color with a white head. The aroma is a great mix of hops. I get citrus and pine. This definitely smells like an American IPA. The flavor is pine with a lot of juicy oranges notes. There is also some caramel malt to stop the beer from being too bitter. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A: Gold, Slight head.

S: Not much there. Slight pear, and sweet.

T: equal parts fruity, ccitrus and sweet

m: Smooth and light. just the right amount of carbonation

O: Decent. An average IPA. Real Ale wants an extra $2 for this over their other beers, and I just don't see it. I can get better IPAs for the same price, sometimes less.

I appreciate the strong presence of grapefruit in this beer and it's rich golden-orange color. Lacking a bit in the mouth feel and the hops-sweetness balance, the smell is also a bit weak. Overall though, refreshing, citrusy, crisp, a solid ipa but not overly impressive. About the level of quality I've come to expect from Real Ale Brewing.

Nice golden hue to the beer as an IPA should be. Has a nice hoppy IPA smell. Taste is definitely the way it should be. Brewed to perfection. Smooth hit on the palate. Nice and hoppy with a nice bitter bite at the end. Definitely a great Texas IPA. Impressed with real ale I a regular basis!

12oz bottle from twiggamortis420 via the Hotter than Hot BIF - stamped best by 7/9/11

served in a standard pint glass

A - pours with about a half inch of loose, fluffy just offwhite colored foam, settling to a thin film with raised ring around the glass. the beer is slightly hazy, deep golden in color.

S - heavy on the sweetish, floral hop aromas: ample amounts of floral amarillo, tropical fruits (grapefruit and pineapple), and honeyed biscuits.

T - kicks off with moderate bitterness attacking the back of the mouth. lemony fruits, pineapples and pears mesh with a hint of grass and honey. malts slowly takeover, via sweet candied biscuits. an odd sort of peanut butter and ripened apple finish.

M - light to medium body, with a crisp dry finish. slightly oily going down, with moderate carbonation.

O - solid all around. nothing stands out though nothing really falls flat. easy drinking, with hints of an English style IPA at American IBU's.

Thanks to xpimptastikx for this one. Poured from a 12oz. bottle with a best by date of 7.19.11 into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

A: Standard pour yields a .5 finger coarse white head with very good retention. Beer is a clear goldenrod. Lacing is sparse and thin but with decent cling. Pretty standard. Head retention is nice though.

S: Nose is incredibly subdued. Citrus, cane sugar, and some mango. Barely detectable though not unappetizing.

T: Opens with a nice fruit bouquet of citrus, papaya, mango, and pineapple. Hop bitterness comes in towards the middle accompanied by some dried tea leaves. End is cane sugar malt body with a piney hop presence. Finish is dry with a citrus and tea leaf aftertaste. Tropical fruit is abundant and adds a nice dimension to this one.

M: Light bodied and moderately carbonated. Crisp and clean in the mouth, going down with some slight bubbles but smooth overall. Finish is pretty muted with a messy, lingering aftertaste. Decent.

O: Another solid brew from real ale, Lost Gold IPA is an enjoyable all-around sipper. Every aspect of this beer is solid from the appearance, to the nose, and taste. Worth trying.

on-tap, the Ginger Man in Dallas

cellphone notes

appearance: served in standard pint - body is straw-golden and a bit lighter than many other examples of the style, foamy beige head with nice lacing

smell: pulpy, adequately hopped, notes of lemon zest and white pepper

taste: i liked this IPA - certainly had hit of orange and lemon zest that provided a sharp but controlled citrus taste. This one also came across a bit grassy with 6.6% being hidden quite well

mouthfeel: medium-light

Drinkability: nice

Pours golden orange with a nice little head.

The smell is very nice. Pine, lemon zest, tangerine, mango, and other tropical goodness abound.

Pine up front with more citrus hanging around. Nice balance and depth. Reminds me of one of our local IPAs that I also enjoy.

The feel is a bit flat, unfortunately, but still pretty good.

I would drink this again. It was refreshing and had some good flavor.
