400th review.

Thanks to Dennis for importing this for me in his travels.

1 year old, properly cellared, poured into a Belgian style wine glass.

Appearance- Beer pours a bit chill hazed but otherwise fairly clear and pale, golden into the glass with a half finger of foamy head that leaves ample lacing on the sides of the glass. Quite honestly, it looks like a pale.

Smell- I'm catching the rye right away (har.) and the pale nuances immediately following, this smells exactly on point to what a Rye beer should be like in the rye pale category. An almost woodsy spiciness that really rounds out the beer.

Taste- Hops and rye are still quite apparent after a year and the pale hasn't lost anything by the cellaring as I had feared it would. Very smooth, carbonation scrubbing my tongue very nicely, even after drinking a tongue ripping Belgian IPA, the smoothness of this pale is unavoidable.

Mouthfeel- The mouthfeel here is very impressive with it's velvety smoothness, a certain creamy texture, medium high in carbonation, medium light bodied.

Drinkability- I'm sad to say this is my last beer of the six pack that I got long ago. This is one I would pick up again if I were traveling through Texas. Sadly, that is not on the itinerary coming up in any of my travels soon.

A-orange amber color with a smallish white head and some lacing

S-citrus, malt, rye, orange

T-doughy malt, rye, citrus, little pine, mild bitter finish, flavors fade out

F-light to medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp

O-average rye beer, but easy drinking, not a lot to distinguish this beer

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a goblet.

A - Beer is a rich gold-to-amber color with lots of orange. Slightly hazy. Head is off-white and not very thick on the pour. It fades to just a wisp on the surface but thick, creamy lace on the glass.

S - Strong NW US hops aroma, as you'd expect for an IPA. But there is also an earthy, spicy note that must be the rye. Sharp aroma in the finish that seems medicinal.

T - Initial flavor is of grassy, spicy hops. This is followed by bready malt that balances the hops burn. Some spiciness from the rye adds complexity.

M - Medium body. Medium to high hops bitterness. Very slight alcohol presence. Low to medium carbonation that still comes across as creamy.

O - This is a decent and enjoyable IPA with a little added complexity from the rye flavors and aromas.
