On cask at the Meddlesome Moth.

The beer pours an amber color with a smallish white head. The aroma is bready malts with some citrus notes. The flavor is bready malts with some florally and citrus notes. Low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

This is my favorite Texas beer at the moment. Enjoyed on-tap at both the Draught House pub and at Black Star Co-Op in Austin, TX. A nice dark-amber bitter beer.

Fantastic for Winter; pairs well with hearty food and with warm, indoor environments. High enough in alcohol content to leave me feeling affected, but also bitter enough to slow my roll so the drunk comes on smooth.

A: Pours a dark reddish/copper color. A one finger white head forms. Some sticky spiderweb lace is left behind.
S: Light toasted malt up front. Some caramel and fruity aromas. Pears and apples are dominate. Some citrus hops, and lingering grapefruit bitterness.
T: Very light toasted malt. Caramel and bread.biscuit flavors. Grapefruit bitterness towards the end. I taste Cascade hops. IMO they have no place with an ESB.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Dry and crisp. Easy to drink. I can session this without a problem.

It is a good beer, but I wish more English hops were used instead of American. Which is similar to the Phoenix Double ESB. To me it tastes like Cascade hops were used (at least in part). It is still a good beer, and I will continue to purchase this. Just not an English version of an ESB.

I had this one at the Fly & Saucer in Houston. Served in a standard straight pint, the beer is a hazy brown-bronze with a thick cream-colored head. Lacing down the whole glass.

It has a slightly subdued aroma of lightly toasted malts and herbal hops.

The beer is slightly sweet with bread dough, crackers and a hint of plum. The bitterness is in the finish and is more citrus based than anything else.

The mouth is decent with a bit of an almost metallic bite. Just a bit more aroma and a dash more hops would make this an excellent session beer. I did enjoy it and would have no problem ordering it again.

Had on-tap at the Alamo Drafthouse in Katy, TX. Served in 16oz American pint glass.

Appearance: Deep copper color with no head or lacing.

Smell: Sweet, buttery malt smells with floral hops.

Taste: Begins sweet and buttery, finishing with a pleasant toasty bitterness that has some herbal hints.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with sharp carbonation on the tip of the tongue and a dryer finish.

Drinkability: Very well-balanced and pleasant, but not great. Might have been better with a proper pour.

NOTE: At the Alamo Drafthouse, the menu lists this ass the "Drafthouse ESB" but it is brewed by Real Ale. I am assuming it is the same as the beer that this review is under. If not, please inform me!

Great golden red/copper color with mild lacing into the glass. A bit cloudy and mild carbonation. On the nose, slight carmel notes with spiced fruit and floral hop characteristics--great balance between toasted malt and floral/spicy hops.

On the palate very balanced--carmel, dark fruit, oaky malt. Full bodied, lightly carbonated but not syrupy. Great balance overall.
