12 oz. can poured into pilsener
(10/3/13 best by date)

L: yellow, slightest of slight fog (95% clear); perfect white head of thick foam, about 3/4- to 1-inch tall that sticks for a bit; no major lacing after the head but a skin of foam stays on top of the beer most of the way down

S: grainy (milo, barley) ... sometimes muted grain, but with a grassy hops smell; also can smell some malt, a yeasty bread sweetness behind the green hops; at times you get a really cool malt smell that includes a lot of yeast but less sweetness ... a lot going on with this brew

T: hop bite! lots of spice and grass from the Tettnanger hops ... almost at times like a cilantro bite. has a seriously strong malt backbone trying to push through sweetness, and it does at times to give the brew a good balance.

F: perfect. light but full, not watery ... about a light-medium weight with tons of carbonation that somehow seems to help the hop bite. love it.

O: wow. Real Ale nailed this one ... a fantastic recipe that offers a ton of a lot of things ... spice, grass, some grain, loads of malt, enough sweetness to keep you from turning green (at 52 IBUs, this thing is loaded with the Tettnanger!) ... it's a perfect Texas option if you want a strong hopped-up pilsener that is still drinkable.

Appearance: Hazy straw yellow color. Hard to say what the head looks like since the bartender did an awful job pouring it. All that's left is a thin ring of white lace.

Smell: Light grainy malt and distinctive flowery/spicy noble hops. Clean, no fruity esters, no diacetyl.

Taste: Dry from start to finish. Crisp with a long-lasting bitterness from the noble hops that lasts into the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation. Low bodied.

Overall: Crisp, clean, refreshing beer that prominently features noble German hop bitterness. Loses big points in the appearance for lack of a head (maybe due to bartender error), and the hazyness. It also looses out a tad in the mouthfeel department. Still, it's a phenomenal summer beer, and at 5.3% ABV you can toss back 2 or 3 without becoming inebriated.

Drank on tap at the Flying Saucer in Addison.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is grassy and earthy hops with some flowery notes. The flavor is grapes and biscuit malt but it is very bitter. The bitterness is well above what I expect in a pilsener and detracts from the overall flavor of the beer. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. The bitterness in this beer needs to be toned way down before I can enjoy it.
