on tap at draught house, whip-in, uncle billy's ginger man in austin.

a surprise in freshness and hop. looks the part with a gorgeous white head that sticks. of tight bubbles. bubbles on all occasion had a soapy quality of several colors. nose is minty hop with straw. crisp pepper dry. could say that its even a more refreshingly victory prima pils. more delicately hopped but not lightly hopped at all. just well placed.

american pilsners are getting better. this is proof. voluminously hoppy and airy feel... now we just need to get the character in the malty backbone... for something worldclass.

On-tap at the Draughthouse in Austin.

Han's Pils pours with a brassy, copper-blonde body that sports a healthy cap of off-white bubbles. Good retention, and the lacing is superb, as the pint glass is coated by thick webs of foam. Grassy aroma, sharp and floral with a sublime balance of Pilsen malt. A bit of bready yeastiness in the background. Really nice so far.

The flavor is everything the aroma promised, and more. Sharp, crisp German hops bite the palate with notes of fresh grass and bitter resin. Hops linger long into the finish like a good IPA, but never are the malts pushed the background, instead balancing nicely with cracker and bleached flour. Uber-clean with no off-flavors. Mouthfeel is superb: light-bodied, well-carbonated, and effortlessly drinkable on a hot Austin day. Han's Pils is easily one of THE best American-made German Pilseners I've come across. Gives Victory's Prima Pils a run for its money.

A: Pours a perfectly clear copper/orange color. A two finger white head forms with good retention. Some light sticky lace is left behind.
S: Up front is spicy yeast. Floral and citrus hops are in full force. Bread and biscuit balances everything out. Very nice.
T: Follows the nose. Lots of spice and yeast. There is a large assault of citrus hops up front. Flowery and grassy hops as well. Again, plenty bread and biscuit for balance. Nuanced and enjoyable. This is very nice.
M/D: A medium body. Pretty much perfectly crisp, dry and refreshing. Very easy to drink. My pint is gone in no time, and I would have no problem quaffing a few.

Well done Real Ale. This is very enjoyable. Nuanced and subtle, just like a good lager should be. Some recurring themes, but well earned. An excellent lager, and highly recommend.
