Pours out as more than a pint's worth of deep chestnut-orange liquid with maple highlights, with a thin collar of ruddy foam for a head. The cling-free, random spottiness of the head is disappointing, with only a very slight carbonation of tiny bubbles being visible; but the best-by date on the bottle is April 2004, after all. Smells quite sweet when cool, with lots of fresh strawberry dipped into dark chocolate. Maltiness seems subdued in the nose, with graham crackers as the base. An unusual finish of twangy gooseberry and whey contributes to a slightly dank, although not peaty, nosefeel. A good shot of cocoa flavor up front on the palate fades through nutty, cashew-like bitterness to a finish of dried cranberries. Mouthfeel is rather lean throughout, going from sweet to tangy with no percievable alcohol. If I ever have this again, I'll concur with the label and bring along swiss cheese and white grapes. Definitely worth trying for those who prefer the less whiskyish Wee Heavies.

500 ml bottle, 1 year old. Pours light brown with short lived, small white head. Aroma is of sherry, caramel, chocolate and hint of hops. Body is medium and tangy. Caramel malt, herbal hops ripe cherries, pepper mint and wood fill the mouth. Finish is long, woody, peppery and dry. Very nice, complex brew.

Pours a murky deep amber to near mahogany depending on the background. A 3 finger light tan head fills my Duvel tulip. It recedes rather quickly leaving light lacing.

The aroma is of spiced dark fruits and light caramel.

Sweet upfront but with a substantial twang and a bitternes from the hope and burnt malt. As the beer warms, the twang disappears and the bitterness mellows leaving a nicely sweet and grainy brew.

Medium full bodied and smoooth if drunk at room temperature as the Broughton website suggests.

Decent straight out of the fridge, but let it warm and as been said before, it is "bliss in a bottle".

Bottle shared by Dan.

A: Pours slightly hazy, but nearly clear brown with a 1/4" white head which fades to the edge of the glass.

N: Caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar/molasses.

T: Malty grains, some faint roast and char. Nice peaty earth notes.

M: A bit light bodied with light carbonation.

O: Just O.K. and pretty standard.

From the 500 ml. bottle stamped BBE NOV 12 - L1132-14:09. Sampled on March 24, 2012. It pours dark amber chestnut brown with a largem, fluffy tan head that lingers. The aroma has some obvious sweet dark malts, raisins, and mild hops on the nose but it is also very subdued all in all. The body is medium to bold. This does not have quite as much oomph as the typical Scottish stiong ale but all of the characteristics are there is a mellow sort of way including sweet dark malts and moderate bitterness. This beer tasted beeter with each sip as it warmed up.

Apperance: A very dark mahogany with garnet hues around the edges. On top is a head around an inch high that has a creamy texture.

Aroma: Dark roasted malts, toffee, faint scotch, a touch of butterscotch, tart fruit in the end.

Taste: Lots of malt in the begining. Bicuity texture, toffee, scotch notes in the middle. In the end is a very smooth finish with a faint fruity tartness.

Notes: A dam tasty beer nicely drinkable. The malts in it do very well. Cheers.
