This pours a rich, warm amber-caramel glow with great foaming. There’s a sharp piney character at first but it mellows out into a rounded forest-y aroma. I get a smooth, piney flavor profile. Pine and lemon nuances come across, balanced by a caramel note on the finish. It’s an easy drinker and I enjoy what the cask brings out in this.

Dark gold, decent white head of about 1/3" on it. Aroma made me wonder where's the hops and what is that after'smell' if you will?

Taste, remarkably bland except for the off flavor of slick wood almost approaching a butterscotch exterior. Still left wondering how a brewery that makes such good hoppy stuff has left me hangin'? Kind of has a bitter ashy resin that people seem to make fun of Mikkeller for.

I dunno, this just seemed off for what Magnolia usually brings to the table. Even though this was underwhelming, I'd give it another try based on their solid track record.

Had on tap at the brewery.

Pours a deep coppery amber colour, very dark for a pale ale. Head is just off-white, leaving a pattern across the top of the glass. Patchy. Lacing is good however. Looks good enough.

Butterscotchy on the nose with a sharp citrus bite to cut through it. Rather sweet overall, with caramel characters coming in as well. Throughout all of this, it's not particularly full or robust either. Doesn't win me over.

Taste is smooth, but again, very light. Some bitterness through the centre, but it's matched and over-matched with caramel sweetness. Feel is nice, but the toffee and caramel characters are too much and the cleansing hop character too little. Unbalanced.

Not the worst beer I've tried, but not particularly exciting either. Like Adelaide: it's alright.

This is a balanced rich Pale with lots of flavor. Excruciatingly good to drink. Cancel all afternoon appointments before trying this baby on for size. Yum - a perfect Pale, maybe my favorite solid West-coast brew I've had from Magnolia. Get it while it's fresh, as I can imagine the older barrels lose some of their zest. Classic brew that should not be missed.

Appearance> Dark, clear, average liveliness for a cask. Looks great for it's stylye and serving type.

Smell>wet dog, hops. Good!

Taste> Complex. Smoothes out perfectly. Wonderfully ashy and resiny.Sweet hang. Nice.

Mouf> perfect mouthfeel.

Drinkability> It pleases me very much

Poured a nice light gold. Cascade hops are there in abundance from nose to finish. There is enough malty sweetness to provide balance, but this is one for those who like their hops front and center. Excellent brew!! Wish I could have had more at Matgnolia.

Light copper color with a good head and great lacing. Spot-on for the style.

Smells like Amarillo hops. Good hop smell, but not enough malt to balance it out.

The taste is th same way. Not enough malt presence, but
beautiful hop flavor.

Feels a little on the thin side, but not enough to hurt it really.

Really drinkable. Would definitely order again and again. A few extra scoops of malt into the mash wouldn't hurt, though.

I had this on tap at Magnolia in San Francisco, CA. It was a dark amber/brown color, with a thick bubbly head and lots of carbonation and lacing. It had a smell of bitter hops. The taste up front was of alcohol but then blended with a strong bitter hops aftertaste.

Poured a nice, darker copper with a decent head and lacing. Excellent hop aroma. Cascades!

The malts are not neglected here. They came through in the aroma and were present in the taste. Tastes like they used a good variety in the process.

A good balance of flavors with an excellent finish. The carbonation was just about perfect, making this a smooth and very drinkable beer. I would rank this up there with other, well regarded APAs. Definitely one that I will drink again and again.

On cask at Magnolia on Haight st, served in a 20oz imperial pint. Golden copper in colour, with a small soapy head. Very mild hop aroma, with some sweet malt. Some grapefruit, sweet toasty, bready malt and a bold bitterness. Smooth creamy mouthfeel, good drinkability. Good session ale from Magnolia.
