I had this on tap at Magnolia. This is an excellent, well-rounded old ale with a rich character, warming yet very smooth.
Extremely dark chestnut with hints of red but almost black, it has a creamy, very pale tan head slowly shrinking to thin wispy veneer and foamy ring, some frothy lace.
Aroma is dried cherries, licorice, hints of orange and metal.
Taste is simlar, with rich caramelly toasty barley, fortified red wine, hints of cherry, licorice, wood, prune, and nice warmign alcohol that stays smooth and gentle. It is characterful and warm but mellow, rich, creamy, very easy to drink, with enough spicy bitterness and warmth to support the slightly dominant sweetness and keep it easy to drink.
Serving type: on-tap
