Pale golden-straw with brilliant clarity capped by dense white head that remains.

Nose is mild with lightly grainy Pils malt and floral hop-aroma. I pick up a good amount of green apple and cidery notes presumably from Acetaldehyde, i.e., a yeast byproduct.

Flavor is grainy Pils malt and light apple juiciness that both get dominated by hop-bitterness lasting throughout the medium-dry finish.

Medium light and oily-coating mouthfeel with medium carbonation.

In short, a plain German Pilsener with apple quality indicating a bit premature beer that hits the spot nonetheless. Still, I have no idea what puts this beer atop of the others of the style.

Bottle Inspection: .33 liter brown bottle, 29.07.07 (sampled 07.10.07, slightly past due), 5,1% abv.

Aroma: Classic peppery hops (Saaz?) overwhelm any malt

Appearance: Very clear yellow glass holds a good white cap with some lacing.

Flavor: Very hoppy! Triggers a mouth watering reaction. Hops overwhelm a slightly salty cracker malt base.

Mouthfeel: Light body with a pucker aspect.

Overall Impression: Classic, if over the top example of a Pilsner. Hop driven; a German IPA.

Big thanks to Max for hand carrying this back from Europe!

Poured into pokal. Best before date of 24/08/10. Medium artificial light.

Appearance: Light straw color. Thick foamy white head that holds throughout the session. Low perceived carbonation with thick lacing. Pristine clear.

Aroma: Medium intensity with slightly muted aroma. Slight skunkiness, herbal character, lemon zest, biscuit and flowers on the nose.

Taste: Very flavorful with the grassyness from the hops and the tobacco like earthiness standing out. Kinda muddy.

Palate: Medium light bodied. Medium to medium high carbonation. Medium to medium high bitterness. Finishes dry. Lingering grassy/earthy taste on the palate.

Drinkability: I really wanted to like this but i was disappointed. It's not bad, but it's really average. There doesn't seem to be any flaws however. I'll try to re-review it some other time if i get my hands on another bottle.

A - Clear, champaign gold body. Foamy white head with ok retention and lace.

S - Nice soft, well rounded nose. Surprisingly fruity. Dry white grape, papaya, bread crust.

T - Mellon, white bread, a touch of green plant bitterness.

M - Light body with moderate-to-light carbonation.

O - Surprisingly tropical for a pilsner, but the sweetness hooks up unbelievably well fresh german brats.

Brown 33cl gold topped bottle, best before 19 Jun 2009, drank 11 Mar 2009.

Poured into a 0.2 litre Veltins Pilsner tulip glass (twice).

Typical pale golden colour you'd expect from a premium pilsner, clear and crisp looking with bubbles rising towards a well formed white foaming head. The head tried to stay and it did for a lot loger than most lagers/pilsners do.

I really do struggle to pick up anything worth saying with most lager/pilsners. This one is no different, a slight yeasty, hoppy hint and a trace of malts maybe, but my regular score of 3 is awarded.

Good taste, tangy and bright feel to the beer, medium sweetness and no metallic bite or dryness common with less balanced lagers/pilsners.

One of the better pilsners on the market, very drinkable. I would love to try it on tap someday.

This was one of the better beers I had when visiting my cousin. He made a run to the beer store when he hear I 'reviewed' beers. It was only O.59 Euros per bottle. Pour was a light golden yellow. I ended up with a small, low white head. I didn't note the aroma, but the taste was like a piece of vollkornbrot, so you know it was nice rich and bready. It had a good mouthfeel with slightly prickly carbonation, so this beer was pretty decent. Did have hop extracts.

Pours a clear, straw color with tall, fluffy, white foam that persisted. Strong carbonation from the bottom of the glass. The aroma was a modest pils biscuity malt with aromatic hops. The taste was lightly malty with moderate hops to balance. Low hop bitterness except in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and crisp with medium-light body and good carbonation; relatively clean with with lingering hoppiness in the aftertaste. A relatively light and drinkable pils.

A- Clear, yellow body with a thin white head that doesn't stick around very long.

S- Spicy hop aromas with a touch of malt sweetness.

T- A touch of bready malts come out first and then comes the spicy hops. There is a subtle fruity/grapey note that come out. Hop bitterness finishes it off. Pretty well balanced though and has a nice full flavor for a German pils.

M- Medium body with a perfect carbonation that really make the flavors jump on your tong.

D- Great balance, full taste, and perfect carbonation make this pretty drinkable for me.

330ml bottle, poured into Leffe Chalice, pale colour, small fading head, some lacing retained. Aroma was seemed to be Spalt and Tettnang hop, detected some fruit. Tasted very fruity for a Pils, notes of Tomato pickle along with what I thought was Tettnang and Spalt hop, some gummi bear. Saves the bitterness for the finish which also brings some sour dough with it. Texture is thin, well carbonated, slightly coarse. I thought it held up very well compared to North German Pils style beers, as it was nowhere near as harsh and had more depth.

330ml bottle 5,1% Abv.
Served chilled in an over sized wine glass.
Best before: 18/12/2012

Appearance: Light golden body (crystal clear), topped by a large white head. The head displays good retention and leaves some patchy lace.

Smell: There is not as much hop character as I expected, but I guess that is as a result of the age of the bottle. That said, the nose is more than solid. Notes include: Grassy noble hops, pale grain, an earthy note and a touch of pale fruit.

Taste: Mmmm, this is certainly a delicious pilsner - grassy hops and pale grain dominate, with a light herbal character and some sweetness also being noted. The finish is lightly dry and fairly bitter.

Mouthfeel: Light (or just over) bodied, with fantastic carbonation - high level and initially quite smooth with a crisp finish.

Overall: This is easily the best pilsner I have had - it is not all that complex, but it very clean and highly drinkable.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that died down a bit but consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: There are light aromas of bready malts in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has flavors of bready malts along with notes of grassy hops and a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a solid and well-balanced pilsner that is very easy to drink. It is a good way to open up a meal.

A bright, very light yellow golden beer with a creamy big head.

Smell is strong malty with some husky notes in a mild way, grainy. The yeast does not have the usual German sulfuric touch. Smell is a little sweet.

Taste is dominated by the malt, a strong maltiness with a light husk taste. The bitterness is remarkably well balanced and is not too bitter. There is not really a hop aroma in the beer, too bad. The yeast is clean, but lacks the typical German character. For me this adds to the beers drinkability, making the beer less sweet and 'thick'.

This beer came courtesy of my friend Georg in my yearly Christmas package from Baden Wuerttemberg. It's his go to beer and it is easy to see why.
Except for a big white head the beer could be mistaken for a glass of champagne. Same color and lots of carbonation. The smell is the low point for this beer , it smells sour maybe Stella-like. There are several tastes. Dominating are an apple sweetness followed by a nice hop bitter bite which lingers. This beer is light and very refreshing. I easily could have several. They should export this to the states. Once again the Germans know what they are doing.
