The Rothaus Tannenzäpfle is the absolute classic among our beers - and has been since 1956. That is why it is also the namesake and figurehead of the Gäpfle family. The best aromatic hops from Tettnang and the Hallertau as well as local malt made from summer barley and the purest spring water from the Black Forest give Rothaus Tannenzäpfle its uniquely spicy and fresh taste.

Definitely one of the best pilsners I’ve had. Honey, grass, crackery malt. Super clean and crisp, easy drinking. This and Palatine Pils (from Suarez brewery) are the best I’ve ever had in this style.

Bottle
L-translucent yellow. Minimal faint bubbles but they persist. Light lacing. Light head
S-malt, grasses
T-malt. A hint of saltiness
F-this is where the beer stands out, with a very light body and smooth mouthfeel for what tastes much fuller and richer
O-fits the style as you’d expect. Has the flavor depth and “heaviness” of a darker or more medium bodied beer than it actually looks or feels, which worked nicely.

Picked up a 5L minikeg after spotting in a liquor store. I was not disappointed. After an initial foam it pours clear and golden into a chilled glass mug with a nice foamy head which quickly dissipates leaving a lacey cling around the glass. Crackers/Breadiness hit the nose immediately upon the slightest whiff, which evolves to a slight hint of spice and hops and malt. First sip reveals a crisp start and clean finish with notes of a quick bitterness and morphs to a clean malty sweetness. Finest Pilsner I've had to date. If you see it, buy it.

Pours crystal clear pale yellow with a generous but rather temporary white foamy head that falls to a hefty cap with heavy cling to the glass.

Classic pilsner smells greet the nose. Light, crackery and bready malt and wonderful noble hops. A touch of sweetness that doesn't seem out of place. Maybe just a smidgen of pine. I thought the sweet smell was corn at first, but after a few sniffs it seems more of a malty sweetness.

Taste is beautiful pilsner malts with a little sweetness. More bready than crackery crisp, but very clean and snappy. Earthy and grassy with a very pleasant Noble hop spiciness. Quick bitter hit. The spice notes linger and invite the next sip. There is a bit of a sweet bread taste which rounds the overall flavor out nicely. It is well-balanced and very clean.

Feel is light, carbonation feels just right and is moderately lively. Finishes just a bit dry with peppery spiciness lingering.

Overall this is a very good example of a German pilsner. Refreshing, easy drinking, and pretty spot on to the style description. Honestly I'm having a hard time finding anything I don't like at the moment

Pours from the tap in a dimly lit room, clear and (I can only assume) gold. Light grassy notes on the nose that translates into a hop charged sip with a drying finish. Well done.

My favourite beer, bar none. Clean and crisp, the sum of the parts makes this superb: spring water, beyond organic levels of quality, the altitude of the brewery and the obsession for making the best beer on the planet. If you are ever in the high black forest, make sure you arrange a visit, you won't be disappointed..

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden straw color with a small head of puffy white foam. The head fades rather fast, leaving a touch of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew super sweet with lots of caramel and apricot mixed with a touch of peach and some nice toffee smells. Along with these aromas comes a nice int of herb and earth as well as a bit of toast.
Taste – The taste begins with a nice grainy and bready flavor paired with a sweetness of caramel and toffee. There is a touch of apricot and a bit of toast, as well as just a hint of a yeast and some sugary sweetness. These tastes take the taste to the end, leaving one with a nice crisp and slightly sweeter, but very clean taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a moderate carbonation level. Overall great for the style and the tastes, making a very easy sipper.
Overall – A very nice crisp, slightly grainy, and moderately sweet pils. Very well done.

12.2oz botle with a code of 221223 on the label, opened 10-28-23.
2 finger pillowy white head with fantastic retention. Golden straw body and carbonation streaming vigorously up. Patchy, thick lacing. Mineral, clay, sulfur, cracker, hay, hop spice...all the pilsner qualities I love in both the flavor and the aroma here. Light body, high carbonation, and an elusive crisp mouthfeel. Nice pop of bitterness that lingers in a longer than expected finish.
Outstanding to World Class.

Class pilsner. Clear straw gold pour, decent carbonation. Not quite getting anything particular on the nose as some are, but the taste more than makes up. Zipping with floral hops and peppery malts, it's full of the character one would expect from Rothaus. Great stuff.

Without question my favorite pilsner on earth. Super clean and crisp. The spring water is obviously making a huge difference in this one. Nice snap of hops and extremely refreshing. Havent been able to find since moving back to the USA from Hong Kong but I would go wayyy out of my way to buy it if I could find it. I wold literally keep this in my fridge at all times if it were more available. BUY it if you find it!
