Bottle into tulip

Appearance- Dark with amber hues when held to light, white head

Aroma- Toasted bread, dark fruits, a mustyness, slight roast, herbal hop presence

Flavor- Toasted bread, dark malts, bigger dark fruit here, fig, date, sweet but balanced well, herbal hops present at the end, finishes dry

Mouthfeel- medium, good carbonation

Overall- Really like this beer, although I could have used more peppery notes for the style, but solid, and nice to see this style in a sixer for a change. Fits the season, worth trying

Pours a clear cola color with a frothy khaki head that slowly dissipates.

Soft caramel malt, toasted nuts, and burnt sugar form the aroma. There's a metallic character that's offputting.

Flavor reveals slightly burnt malt, sweet initially, then becoming very bready and toasted, with a toffee finish. There's some underlying floral hop character and a hint of yeast funk sourness. The balance is bready malt. The aftertaste is a little bitter.

Body and carbonation are moderate, with a slightly astringent finish.

Decent malt character. It reminds me more of an English brown with a touch of funk. Very drinkable, but nothing extraordinary. Hides the alcohol well.

Good malty aroma with qualities like a scotch ale and a brown ale. Hints of spice but really in the background. Also a hard water quality.
Quite dark with highlights of garnet. Dense tan head. Attractive.
Firm malt flavors with moderate drying on the finish. Still has some fresh hop bittering and soft hop flavors. As with the aroma the yeast characteristics are mild and very much in the background. Good hit in the gut of alcohol, but I'm drinking on an empty stomach.
Fullness from ample carbonation (a little too much for my tastes), but a nice moderate feel.
This has a nice winter drink feel and goes with the weather quite nicely.

Bière da Garde
Summit Brewing Company, Minnesota
---bottle to pint glass---

Appearance
Dark brownish/red, thick head dissipates to thin ivory head, very little lacing.

Smell
Brown sugar, cherries and plums – very inviting.

Taste
The dark malt shines here, smoke and cherry.

Mouth-feel
More carbonation than I expected, complex flavors evolve between sips.

Overall
Generally not my type of beer, but as a Minnesotan I had to try – summit rarely disappoints. Less carbonation would give the malt more time to shine, but I like it.

Appearance: Deep red, big head. Very pretty beer.

Smell: Floral at first, shifts to more earthy and dark fruits.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Fruity, tangy cherry and berry flavors with a very tingly mouthfeel. Fruits shift into a earthy finish.

Overall: Biere de garde is an interesting style. To me they seem like fruitier dubbels and usually have a higher carbonation/tingly feel. This one checks those boxes for sure. A good beer, worth checking out.
