Pours a slightly hazy amber red with one finger of dense head that had good retention before settling to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass.
Nice hop aroma. The Mosaic hops really bring this beer to life. Citrus, pine, a funky dankness all come through. Pick up some caramel and bread from the malt.
A hoppy red ale flavor. Citrus, tropical fruit, pine, and some forest floor flavor compliments the sweet caramel malt. Overall a really nice combination of flavors.
Medium body and superbly carbonated. Feels rich but still lively on the palate.
Horizon Red Ale was a good beer, this is even better. The addition of Mosaic hops brought the beer to an another level of great flavor. Too bad this is the hardest of the Summit beers to find because it is probably the best of their year-round beers.

12oz bottle poured into my FW Imperial Nonic glass
Notes taken on 04/21/14 – Cheers Allen!
A: Claret amber body with good transparency and a half finger of khaki froth resting on top. Notable hang time with this one. Lightly etched lacing produces a broken track pattern of stick that runs down the glass after every sip.
S: Pine hops and spice blend with biscuit and toffee malt to make up the majority of the nose. There is some underlying grapefruit spice with a slightly herbal twist. Fairly clean aromas overall with some good high quality ingredients.
T: Biscuity malt stands firm in the flavor with light toffee but the beer is not necessarily sweet. Touch of raisin in there as well with some really juicy hops. Has a great mix of pine sap, spices, grapefruit, orange peel, and a dash of dank green herbs. Not terribly bitter but you can sense it. The alcohol is well blended and this is just smooth overall with a real nice balance to it. A wet herbal dankness surfaces more and more as I drink. Digging this one for sure.
M: Moderate filling body lying a touch on the lighter side. Nice creamy consistency. Smooth bitterness with a sticky resinous feel. Touch of drying at the finish but overall a touch wet.
D: This is a nice Red IPA with equal parts malt to hops. Mosaics were a good choice providing some in depth hop flavors that compliment the sticky malts. Probably my favorite Summit brew thus far. Nothing here says game changer but I have found their enter line up to be about the same. Just really well crafted and with great balance.
