Bottled 30 December 2013, per the code on the label. Tasted 21 April 2014.

Pours a clear medium amber. One finger of whiteish head, decent retention and lacing. Thin column of bubbles in the center.

Smell is warm toasted malts and herbal hops. VERY malty, so much so that I don't think I'd even peg it as an English IPA. I find it generally dull (and I like subtlety).

Taste is a shade better than the smell. Balanced, smooth, and fairly clean, though the back-end bitterness has an odd edge to it. Hops are low, and what ones there are are herbal, kinda hay-like. Malts are buoyant, full, and toasty. Just enough hop bite that I know it's an IPA.

Feel is pretty good. Medium-bodied, expansive in the mouth. Carbonation is mid-level, which is fine. Lasts a little longer than average, fading into a mildly chalky drying bitter.

A meh beer. For this style to wow me, it's got to show some subtle depth, or really nice balance, or something. This is just kinda blah.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium orange color with a strong white head. SRM of 10. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of orange, lemon and grapefruit citrus upfront. Mild flowery notes before a tangerine melon flavor comes through underneath.

Flavor: Moderate flavors upfront of lemon and grapefruit citrus. Some tangerine and flower in the middle before a tangerine and melon flavored finish. Minimal malt body.

Compared to Summit EPA: Pours a similar color. Stronger aromas. More citrus fruit. Less chewy orange and malt body.

Compared to Badger Hill Traitor IPA 1/24/22: Pours a slightly darker color. Milder aromas. More orange, tangerine, grapefruit. Less lemon and flower.

Overall: A nicely flavored IPA here with flavors of lemon and grapefruit citrus. Some flower notes. Nice earthy caramel on the finish. Smooth and authentic is about all I have to say here. Nails the English IPA aspect.

12 oz cans into a large dimple mug. Can stamped enjoy by date: Jan 27, 2022. It is clearly not retired and is still being brewed. 3 cans in a mixed 12pk.
L: Pours a vibrant gold caramel one finger off-white foamy head with fairly good retention down to a 1/4" head that stays. Lower carbonation but present. Thick sticky lacing and coating on mug.
S: Clean hops, bread, light caramel, floral notes and kind of earthy.
T: Light pine resin, toasted malts, lightly sweet on the lips, orange/tangerine rind, black tea, apricot. It is moderately fruity. A decent amount of biscuit is central within the malt profile.
F: Smooth and lightly creamy with a bright hop tingle and a very pleasant med-light bodied mouthfeel. It has a very laid-back long resinous finish.
O: The firm hops and bitterness align very well with the overall lower carbonation to give this IPA a true British taste and feel. It is super easy to drink and is excellent in it's style. Happy that is back in the mix from Summit!

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass.
Clear, dark amber colored body, thick, white cap, and moderate lacing.
Earthy, bready aroma.
Earthy, caramel taste with floral zing at the end. Some bitterness, but well balanced.
Pleasant filling mouth feel.
A well crafted IPA, in the British style. Very easy to drink. Enjoyable.

This beer pours a fairly clear golden color. The head is white and quite frothy.
The nose I get a nice hint of citrus.
The taste is interesting. I do get the hop, but after there is another flavor profile I just can't describe. Somewhat a smooth velvet feel is the best way to describe it.
Overall an unusual beer for me, but it does taste good.

Pours a hazy amber color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of earthiness, caramel malt, slight tea, hint of sweet malt, and a hint of spicy hops. Fits the style of an English IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of earthiness, caramel malt, slight tea, hint of rye, slight floral hops, hint of sweet malt, and a hint of spicy hops. Overall, good appearance, feel, body, and blend.

a good english ipa makes me happy, but it seems like nobody is drinking them these days, and because the trends have changed, less brewers are making them. its nice to find a good one like this, which is a little different in the style, but really tasty as they go. its a little lighter on the malt, not into that crystal and caramel color range, but with a robust biscuity grain complexion and enough body without the sweeter and richer malts. its also pretty hoppy as they go, more than just the grassy bitter finishing hop we are used to in the style, and seemingly more than the magnum and fuggles hop profiles that seem to dominate the style. i instead get a more aromatic hop here, a pinch of dried citrus, and an overall more oily and fresh nature to the hops that i am used to. almost like a northwestern pale meets an english ipa. the yeast is subtle here too, and the beer is very clean in that regard. nice medium body, plenty dry, and carbonated like a soda, it really drinks easy for the style, and i think is a good microcosm of what summit is all about, which in my head at least, is keeping the old school alive a little bit, but making beers with broad appeal to both old and new generations of craft beer drinkers. i really dug this one.

Earthy, fruity aroma. Clear amber, moderate carbonation, 3/4 inch slightly off-white thick head, leaving sticky lacing. Earthy taste, following the aroma, with mild bittering from the hops in the middle and finish. Plenty of malt thickness in the mouth feel and taste in the foundation; well-balanced, plenty of earthy and floral flavor from the hops and bready flavor from the malts. Enjoyable and well-brewed. Much better than I recalled from a couple of years ago when I had my last True Brit. My memory is of a harsh beer, but this one is very nice... nicely balanced, nice hop flavor, just the right amount of bittering to balance the malts, and nice earthy, bready malts. This beer came along for the ride in Summit's IPA Collection box, and without that, I probably would never have bought another True Brit. Now, I'll likely be buying this again from time to time all on its own.
