a: pours a nice caramel orange brown color with about a half inch of head that disappears steadily but not overwhelmingly fast. there is a good amount of sticky lace on the edge of the glass and top of the beer

s: caramel malts, there are bready and citrusy aromas. the malts are balanced nicely with piny hop bitterness

t: sweet caramel and biscuity malts

m: medium bodied beer with a good amount of carbonation

overall, this is a solid predictable beer

Pours out to a frothy, sticky head that leaves significant lace, Color is hazy copper. Aroma is a balanced blend of sweet, biscuity malts and subtle earthy/floral hops. Flavor is a balanced blend of caramel malt and noble hop bitterness and aroma. Very much an old school US craft beer in terms of hop characteristics--moderate bitterness and no loud, weird new breed domestic hop signatures (pine, grapefruit, sharp spiciness etc.). Mouthfeel is light-medium and CO2 is at American levels. Overall a very good American-ish EPA that nods to British restraint. If you like Boulevard Pale Ale, this is a good choice for you.

Had this one last week on a layover at the Minneapolis St Paul airport in Axel's Bonfire.

I rather enjoyed this one. A nice balanced hop and malt aroma and a well balanced palate as well. Juicy citrus hops and a nice malt/caramel backbone.

Medium bodied with mild carbonation.

A pleasant surprise on this stop over. Well worth your time!

12oz bottle into a FW Imperial nonic glass
Notes from 03/09/14

Thanks Allen!

A: Light caramel amber body with near perfect clarity and some evident streaming carbonation. Nice fat finger width of ivory whip on top with modest stay power and some light swaths of lace left clinging to the glass.

S: Smells of bready malts with light biscuit and some underpins of spiced citrus fruits. There is a touch of caramel sweetness coming through as well. Smells fair while slightly tipping the balance towards the malt. Nice nose overall with some decent hops present.

T: The beer maintains a firm bready malt fullness with some nice spicy citrus hops playing point and a bit of supporting pine sap. Sensible sweetness by way of a dry caramel maltiness and there is a moderate to upper amount of perceived bitterness on the palate. Nice balance to it and very drinkable with really no alcohol flavors noted. Smooth. Makes for a nice quaff.

M: Lightly filling from the malts but with a frothy texture from a nice spritzy carbonation. Moderate amount of constricting bitterness on the palate. Bit of drying lift at the finish but perhaps a touch on the wetter side in the end.

D: A real decent sessions brew here. Very well balanced while falling more to the malt side. Still nice and well crafted. Good starter brew fo sho.
