Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours red amber with a small white head that laves good lacing. Smells of dark roasted grain with predominant chocolate and a tad of caramel. Tastes of chocolate and caramel, very deep taste. Beer is full bodied and just enough carbonation to make it smooth. Overall, a superb beer.

It's time for another Summit Union Series beer, and this one is a mild ale, a 3X mild, to be exact.
Appearance: clear, deep amber, slim white head.
Aroma: earthy, herbal, malty. Low hops in this, minor fruit notes, definitely English hop character.
Taste: clean, smooth, and brimming with flavor. This is how you want your dark mild, a kind of brew practically unknown to the average craft consumer. If Surly Mild where ever canned, the local yokels would know a little more, but since it's so infrequently represented, it's a secret to most that you can have a dark, delicious, lighter bodied, and lower alcohol ale like this. Long, malty finish, medium body, very tasty.
Where's some info on this? The 6-pack carrier: 7.2% ABV. (What? That's not "mild"! Oh, yeah, it's "3X" mild, now I get it….but I didn't taste it.), OG: 17.5 Plato, 38 IBU. Expedition Base Malt, USA, Mild Ale Malt, UK, Amber Malt, UK, Experimental 06300 hops, USA.

Dark copper in color. Rich malty nose. The flavor is deeply malty with a solid bitter finish.
Now this is the kind of mild ale I can wrap my arms around - a triple mild!!!
Seriously, I see this as more of an ESB than a mild.

Took me awhile to get around to reviewing this. Hopefully it hasn't lost too much hop character.
Aroma is a mix of hop and a spicy brown sugar malt quality. Interesting and enjoyable.
A smallish but rather dense head that is tan covers a quite clear amber orange to brown body. Some lacing and pretty sticky the head is.
Much matching of the aroma in the taste. This is pretty hop forward without excess in the bitterness (note not excessive, but there is a streak of mild finishing bitterness). There is a fun earthy character that lends a gritty image (husky, north woods, big machines and sweaty bodies). Still with the unique sweetness (like brown sugar or a rich toffee) but it too is not excessive - more hints in and out.
Even with a husky image it is not a big feeling beer coming in at a little less than moderate. Good steady carbonation.
A nice hearty ale.
