From notes.

Appearance: Caramel/amber hue with a bubbly off-white head.

Aroma: Biscuit malt and a little sweetness.

Taste: Nice caramel malt, some hop sweetness and a touch of bitterness. Good barley flavor like every English IPA should have.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and smooth. Average drinkability.

Final Thoughts: I don't remember having liked Summit's India Pale Ale before, but it's definitely grown on me. It delivers the classic flavor you'd expect from an English IPA and an old school brewery. Would I drink it again? Yes, though the three that come in the seasonal 12 packs are plenty.

India Pale Ale
Summit Brewing Company, Minnesota
---from bottle to pint glass---

Appearance
Foggy golden/honey, two fingers of beautiful sticky off white head, great lacing.

Smell
Soft hoppy notes, slight malt sweetness, nothing stands out.

Taste
Earthy bitter hops, hint of tart fruit, caramel backbone.

Mouth-feel
Good carbonation, good bitter, light body.

Overall
Summit loves their pale malts… and so do I. Not as hoppy as most IPA’s – however, this is not one of many popular American IPA… This is an English IPA. Still, this will not be a go-to beer for me. I’d call it a light IPA.

Pours out dark orange with a tiny head that dissipates quickly. Smell is actually pretty malty with caramel and toffee. Ironically no hops in the nose that I sense. Well very faint and almost malt forward. Taste is pretty malty with what I found in the nose. Ironically there is VERY little bitterness or any hop flavor. This beer really doesn't make sense as far as the malt and hop bill are concerned. Not one to buy much Summit but surprised that it is SO malty with little bitterness. Mouthfeel is about right and a little thick. Overall this is a pretty bad IPA. It's way too malty and just let's you down on the hop bill. Is this supposed to be something else? Summit bites on this one and I'm a homer.
