Lightly golden with a big ole white head of foam. Aromas are of wheat, yeast, a bit of lemon and some slight spiciness. Where are the banana aromas? The taste is wheaty and yeasty up front bu the german hefe banan flavors are still WAY in the background. The mouthfeel was creamy and a bit full but the drinkability suffered because this beer was a mediocre.

Pours a bright orange yellow color. white head vanished rather quickly.

Smells like bananas and apple sauce. Slighty wheaty clove aroma hiding behind the fruit.

Taste is banana brad up front (Banana and dough tastes) Spiciness and lemony tartness follow.

Body is nothing more than medium and carbonation is peppy.

There is a time for every beer. I just don't think there is a time i would want more than one of these. Not a bad brew just nothing special.

A= pours a hazy golden color that looks a lot like honey with a small head that has average bubble size as well as average retention and lacing.
S= small banana and clove notes with wheat dominating.
T= yeasty and wheaty. Not much as far as bannana and a touch of clove.
M= pretty average.
D= good. Not the best by any means but I could sip on a few. Don't expect to get blown away by this one. Very average and medeocre.

A decent spring and summer selection. Doesn't have the bold Hefeweizen characters that I love in the style, but clean and void of flaws. A typical straw / yellow and yeasty looking brew. The haze is less intense than desired and the head retention is slight, but maybe I'm being too picky. Smells sweet and yeasty, but light on the clove, bananna, and bubble gum esters. Tastes reitterate the aromas, in that there exists a soft sweetness (not entirely grain deriven), along with a mild - moderate wheat and barley malt. A timid yeasty, bready flavor follows through to the finish. Citrus (orange, pineapple) do the same. Finishes quite clean and refreshing with a mild grainy bitterness. Pretty good, but not a 'standout' enought to claim top nods.

A - Nice golden yellow color, thin head that stays on top while drinking. Not cloudy at all.
S - Definitely banana clove with a little yeast.
T - Tastes more like a wheat than a hefeweizen. I prefer my hefes to have a little more banana.
M - Too much carbonation at first, settled down about half way through the glass.
D - I could throw these back all night. But I only have two...so I guess I'm out of luck.

Overall, a nice beer, not spectacular and not the best of Summit's lineup. I'd go with the extra pale first.

It pours out looking pretty cloudy with and without the yeast added in. A nice sized lacy head on top of that. This is pretty much a standard hefe from what ive had, not a whole lot going on. Pretty grainy taste, some citrus smell and taste in there. All and all a pretty nice beer.

Not a big hefe wizen fan, but I pulled this from a Summit variety pack. Color is a nice golden yellow. Flavor is complex but nicely balanced with the typical banana/spice you would expect from this style. Overall a little heavy and not as refreshing, but a well rounded entry and a must try for any hefe weizen fan.

Cloudy hazy yellow color, with a small white head that doesn't last long. Light sourish banana-clove aroma, light wheaty, yeasty flavors, very light in body, somewhat watery, has a nice clean and crisp finish, not bad and very average for an unfiltered style wheat.

This beer poured a solid golden color with a small white head that reduced to a thin layer above the beer. Smell was very wheaty and slightly bready. First flavor I taste is a sweet bready flavor. A grainy base comes in after that. Slight spicyness comes in from the yeast not spices. The finish is a little bitter and definitely acidic and dry. Lighter in body and easy to drink. Not a bad brew but nothing great either.

Tasted on 5/11/05 at Bricks (Beer Bar) in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Clear light gold but pretty hazy after swirled pour. Light clove and banana aroma and flavor with the clove standing out a bit more than the fruit. Light-medium bodied with a citric bite in the finish.

Pretty average Bavarian Hefeweizen.

A - Cloudy orange color. White head fades to a film. Small bits of lacing.

S - Sweet and light bubblegum yeasty smell and some earthy wheatiness. Also some mild hoppy bitterness.

T - Taste starts out with a light crispy bite, quickly into some earthy wheat & sweet yeast flavors. Some sweeter banana flavors come in briefly before a lightly bittersweet finish.

M - Light to medium consistency, with light carbonation.

D - Very easy drinking, nothing outstanding or terrible. I love hefes and this ones local so I'll be drinking it a lot this summer.

Pours a nice soapy (swirled the last inch of product and dumped into glass) golden orange with a bright white head that diminishes to a mere 1/8".

Nice sour citrus notes of lemon rind in the nose. Yeasty with a vanilla component.

Refreshing flavor of the lemon mixed with the yeasty backdrop. A little clove and white pepper (faint) but virtually no traditional bubblegum flavor.

Mouthfeel shines with ultra fine carbonation at a playful pace. On the lighter side of medium bodied with a nice clovey spice and citrus finish.

Drinkability is good. I can see myself drinking a couple or three in one sitting.

Overall a good utility Hefe for me. Better than most American Wheat Ales, but falls short of the high bar set by the Bavarians. A good wheat beer though, but nothing memorable.

A hazy yellow, but not quite as hazy as a hefe should be. Small white head fades quickly. Nose is yeast and oranges. Taste is citrus and clove, with some anise. A bit spicy. Mouthfeel is great, nice for the style. Drinkability is above average. Overall a good american hefe.

Poured into a pint glass.

A-Straw yellow beer with a glowing orangey hue in the center. Beautifully hazed with yeast. Fluffy head on top, perfect white; persisted decently, slowly down to a 1 cm head layer.

S-Slightly citrus, with a nice clovey tone and assertive, refreshing wheatiness.

T-Smooth, clovey-spicy with a hint of banana and a slight lemony essence lingering into the finish. Wheaty tang is certainly there, though not too aggressively.

M-Crisp and nearly puckering high carbonation, large-bubbled and cleansing on my palate. Medium-light body.

D-Perfect for a sunny summer day. Unfortunately, it's a bit gloomy out. But, it's a tasty brew and is quite smooth and enjoyable. Good for any weather patter, I suppose :)

Slightly hazy pale yellow hue. A hard pour produced a modest white head (a true Bavarian Weizen should require a soft pour for a large head, anyway…), fair retention, it sunk slowly to a soapy cap. Minimal spotty lace. Well-constructed nose with the perfect invitation, cloves, wheat, spice, yeast. Not potent but pleasant. The palate is lightly spicy & clovey… fruity but not so much banana-like… sharp yeasty finish. Supremely refreshing. Definitely the abv you’re looking for in a summer seasonal. High carbonation does mask the flavors a little too much, medium-body. A pleasant quaff even if it is a little off style-wise, it has its charm. Thanks ZAP!

Typical straw yellow for hefe's, not as cloudy as I might prefer. The head rises up after the pour well, but quickly dissapears to a broken ring, if any. The smell and the initial taste both had the characteristics of hefeweizens, but were a little toned back. Banana and cloves over the fresh wheat backdrop initially, finishing with citrus/lemon zest and a bread/yeast flavor. Although there wasn't a lot to make this standout, it is still a solid, drinkable, local beer that I am certain I will return to more than once before the summer is over.

This was poured into weizen glass from the bottle with a swirl to rouse the yeast in the bottom of the bottle.

A - cloudy golden color with a thick head that settles somewhat quickly and is retained in a thin collar

S - banana and clove nose with wheaty malt behind it; enjoyable, but perhaps not as strong as a German version

T - smooth wheat malt flavor with banana and clove yeasty accents, slight hop finish

M - medium body with moderate carbonation

D - This is a decent version of a hefeweizen from an American brewery, perhaps one of the best. However, I'm still quite fond of the authentic German versions. It's worth a try and a very good beer, but if you like this a lot, you should also check out it's German cousins.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into water glass at work.

Appearance: Cloudy orange with a foamy head.

Smell: Some wheatiness with strong bananas and some cloves.

Taste: Mostly semi-sweet wheat malt, with nice balance of bananas and clove. Light hop spiciness at the end. Slightly watered down for a Hefeweizen, but pretty good overall.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, fairly light, dry finish.

Drinkability: Very light and easy to drink, but also a little light on flavor. I prefer other Hefeweizens, including Schell's, which is also local.

Edit: I changed this review quite a bit on May 1st, 2010, because this year's batch was better than last year's, which was weaker than normal.

Nice frisky weizen flavor. Not as much banana or spice flavor as expected for this style, but that just lets the fizzy wheat taste take the stage. A good cloudy body, thought its yellow is a tad darker than expected. Thin head, grainy lacing. I couldn't resist squeezing in the lemon slice, but that ain't no crime with this beer. Highly carbonated as expected; in fact, almost "seltzer water" gassy. Another surprise to be found at the bar in Marshall Field's basement.

A: Dark yellow/golden color. Super cloudy, can't see through it at all. Lots of fluffy, creamy white head. Thick small bubble lacing is painted all over the glass.

S: Sweet and yeasty. Bananas and clove spices.

T: Follows the smell. Wheat and a dash of floral and pine hops are in the mix as well. Very smooth finish.

M/D: Lighter body that feels a little thin. Lots of small carbonation bubbles makes for a smooth, creamy mouthfeel at first, but as you swallow, there is a little bite on the back of the mouth. Pretty good drinkability. Hefes aren't my faveorite, but this pretty refreshing on a warm, summer day.

Another tasty Hefe from ZAP! This offering was fairly clear (until yeasties were added near the finish) and a medium-light golden color. Plentiful bubbles streamed topwards. Head was about 1/4", white and fine, with a decent lacework in the glass.
Nose was mildy of banana, with only a touch of clove. Body was just in the medium range, and it passed fairly smoothly (for the style) over the palate.
A little hint of sweetness was present, with a very mild banana accompaniment. There seemed to be more of an apple-type fruitiness than the typical Bavarian offerings. The bier was crisp and dry, and perhaps just a smidge tart. Again, could have been spicier and clovier. The yeast at the end did produce a bit more sharpness, though. Still, a decent Hefe, and thirst-quenching to boot! Zum Wohl!!

Yet another Summit single for me to try. It seems like I've been drinking Hefes nonstop, although i thought that i didn't really care much for the style. It poured a cloudy golden color with a 3 finger nice white head. Notes of yeast and bannana are heavy in the nose. Taste has a little grassy fill soon followed by a kick of lemony citrus. A slight bannana aftertaste follows. Certainly better than the tabernash hefe that I had last week, but I've definately had better.

a: straw yellow with usuall hefe cloudiness, about a half inch of head that does not dissapear fast and leaves a good amount of lacing
s: sweet bannana aroma, yeasty smell that all hefes have is very present and very nice
t: the bannana flavor that the aroma hinted at deffinatly comes out, theres a nice lemony tart flavor and the wheat flavor really compliments the other flavors well
m: medium bodied with above average carbonation

overall this is my favorite hefe, very enjoyable and very refreshing
