Had this beer at the MSP airport during a layover. I tried Summit's Red Ale, Lager and this beer - by far this was the best. I shouldn't have tried it last because I would have ordered more before my plane departed.

Great clean flavor and very refreshing. I would absolutely buy this if it was available in my area.

Had on tap at the Summit brewery. Can't get better than drinking at the source.
A: Nice looking hefe - pours a cloudy gold with creamy white head.
S: Subtle maltiness with hints of banana, citrus, and clove.
T: Nice wheat flavor with a bit of yeastiness and fruit.
M: Good, but a little thin. (A common complaint I have about Summit brews)
D: Very drinkable. Decent, but not great, American hefeweizen.

I've had this on tap at Burrito Loco and Sally's, most likely because it was the most appealing thing they had on tap.

Served in a standard pint glass. Golden in color, with a hint of orange, served with a lemon. I was asked by a friend if it was Blue Moon, as it does resemble it. Half finger head that shrinks to nothing quickly. No lacing.

The nose is typical of a Hefeweizen, nothing special. Light citrus and clove scents, as well as very yeasty.

The taste is much better, in my opinion. More pronounced, with the ever so subtle hop spiciness that kicks it up a notch. Actually pretty good tasting.

Mouthfeel is light, with a bite from the carbonation. Good drinkability.

Overall, a solid american Hefe. Not by any means a great one, but a solid one. I sort of like this beer, and think it's underrated. If I'm at Sally's or Burrito Loco again, with their less than spectacular tap list, I'll have this gladly.

On tap at the MSP airport at Ike's.

The beer pours a hazy honey gold color with pretty good head retenation and lacing. On the nose there is considerable spice, with noticeable clove, nutmeg and a touch of banana. Flavors on the palate replicate the nose, and for such a low abv. beer, I'm impressed by the amount of flavor in this beer. Mouthfeel is fairly light, but still substantial. Drinkability is exceptional.

What a treat to be able to find a beer this tasty at the airport.

Flowery hefe; what can i say - tastes like dishsoap to me.

A: Golden color with a thick head

S: Smells soapy; not a good start.

T: Tastes soapy. Very flowery (not bitter hops, but flowers) flavor to it. Not sure if that is a fermentation issue or the hops, but i feel like im drinking Palmolive.

M: SG 1.015 maybe? Medium carbonation.

D: The taste really throws me off, so hard to judge. Seems like the gravity and mouthfeel is fine, so probably drinkable if you like floiwery beers.

It poured a nice golden haze with a concave 3 inch white head.

It had a nice clove smell that was accompanied by a minimal banana undertone.

A rich clove taste was topeed with a delicious hoppy finish. It was very smooth.

I found it to be very drinkable and refreshing. Well worth a session on a hot summer night.

On tap at Delilah's in Chicago. Pours slightly hazy light yellow with very small head. Smell is lemon, wheat and cracker like. Taste is a bit thin, very bubbly body, and is lemony and citrusy with cracker like wheaty flavor. More like an American Wheat than Hefeweizen, but a slight spiced flavor does come out, however. Lacking in body and some flavor, but still very refreshing, and easy drinking.

served on-tap in a summit weizen glass, this looked like a wheat should in that it was a hazy glowing yellow-orange. the head was not as impressive as a german hefe, however. served sans garnish. still, lemon was the dominant aroma i picked up in this, not much else going on to speak of. taste was a nice bit of malt sweetness balanced out by some tartness, spiciness, and carbonation. drinkability is great at the listed abv.

This beer has a small head but it stays for good and gives off an amazing odor of sourdough bread. What an awesome thing for beer to smell like. The taste is super-tangy and has a strange mix of ester and phenol flavors that are kind of recognizable but come together in such a way that its far from "classic" hefewiezen taste. Banana stands out the most but I wouldn't say it dominates. This is definately different and probably the best domestically- produced hefe I've had yet. I drank it in like 15 minutes.

This one poured a cloudy yellow with a white head that settled to a thin layer in my glass. Minimal lacing.

The aroma is of citrus and fruity esters.

The flavor is of wheat malt, yeast, fruity esters, citrus (orange, lemon).

It is light/med. bodied with medium carbonation.

This is a very drinkable beer. I've had many other Hefe's that were much better but this is still good and would make a great session brew.

Nice frisky weizen flavor. Not as much banana or spice flavor as expected for this style, but that just lets the fizzy wheat taste take the stage. A good cloudy body, thought its yellow is a tad darker than expected. Thin head, grainy lacing. I couldn't resist squeezing in the lemon slice, but that ain't no crime with this beer. Highly carbonated as expected; in fact, almost "seltzer water" gassy. Another surprise to be found at the bar in Marshall Field's basement.

Harder to do reviews while at a bar/resturant with all the stimulus and distractions, but here goes. Also, wasn't expecting this sample to be as fresh as it was considering the location of the resturant.
Anyway, the aroma came across a little light overall and it was hard to pick up specifics, but mostly noting light clove qualities. Looked good with firm 1/2 inch head with good lacing. Cloudy yellow. Classic looking for style. Taste was quite nice. Strong on the clove but with noticable wheat malt backing that blended nicely. Stayed flavorful from first sip to last. Enjoyable soft mouthfeel. I enjoyed this more that I expected, or more than I remember, as it had been a couple of years since my last Summit hefe.
Went very well with my walleye and fresh green beans.

I bought a half barrel of this beer for its price. Having never drank any Summit products before it was a gamble. The gamble paid off, what a nice surprise. This is a very drinkable beer with a nice nose, very characteristic to the hefe weizen style. The mouthfeel is somewhat thick on the tongue, but it is easy to drink more than one of these after working outside. Tastes best in a wheat beer glass with the lemon, this seems to bring out the fullest clove flavors. A very thick creamy head tops this beer off.

Summit Hefe Weizen: on tap. Poured a very yellow color, very hazy. The color was a little startling. Nice thick head, dense and long lasting. Very lemony flavor, which was a little surprising (and no, they did not put a lemon in it). The banana taste typical to the style were absent. After taste was long lasting, and fruity sweet. The brew was smooth though, with a creamy mouth feel. Unusual brew, not that authentic to the style, and not in my top ten of the style.

Appears a cloudy unfiltered golden orange complemented by a foamy white head. Aroma has hints of spices, very mild banana notes, overall very nice just faint. In the first sip a sweetness mixed with all of the yeast tones, and this beer presents a good amount of hop flavor that I found uncharacteristic of a hefeweizen. This was almost like an Americanized version, a wheat ale if you will. Light to medium bodied with a pretty thin moutfeel overall. Pretty drinkable just nothing spectacular, I would like to try this one in the bottle to see if it differs.

Not a big hefe wizen fan, but I pulled this from a Summit variety pack. Color is a nice golden yellow. Flavor is complex but nicely balanced with the typical banana/spice you would expect from this style. Overall a little heavy and not as refreshing, but a well rounded entry and a must try for any hefe weizen fan.

So my chance to have summit. I grabbed it from a shipment and was excited to get it.

It smells fruity with flowers
Taste is not good. Skunk with bitter. Just not for me. I do feel that if I had poured it colder it would have been better.
Lots of carbonization on the tongue.

Overall this beer is not for me. .

Gotta love college budgets, first review in a while. Poured into my 21st birthday mug.

A: Nice golden orange color. Clear with tons of carbonation and bubbles rising to the top. 2 finger head that sticks around for a while and settles into about an inch of head that sticks around for the whole trip. Pretty nice lacing as well.

S: Only citrus, maybe some malts too. Very sweet smelling.

T: Follows the nose. Heavy on the citrus, pretty much exclusively sweet. Maybe a little alcohol at the end? Seems off for the abv but thats what it seems like. Finishes pretty clean.

M: Lots of carbonation, but has a crisp mouthfeel, light but not thin.

O: Solid beer, not my favorite hefe but i could drink it on a nice summers day.

Poured into my Surly pint glass.

Pours a light straw color. Pillowy white head sits atop. Dissipates rather quickly. Smells like citrus. A fair amount of carbonation. Goes down with ease. Slight hop character with a citrus finish. A very typical summer hefe. Good but not spectacular.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Sam Adams pint. Bottled on 4/27/11.

A: Pours a nearly clear, light golden color with 1-1/2 fingers of off-white head. Strong retention and lace, active carbonation.

S: Light banana, faint spice, a little earth.

T: Like the smell, starts with light banana notes and then adds some spice in the middle. Overall, the flavor is too tame, leaves me wanting more.

M: Quite good, light and very creamy.

O: A nice beer, but I really wish there were more going on with the flavor and aromas. Would make a good thirst-quencher for a hot day.

Bottle says enjoy by 6 September 2011.

Pours a nice cloudy golden straw yellow, like late summer wheat. A nice stack of head, about two fingers, white. Retention is decent, lacing is pretty good.

Smell - lots of fruit and yeast. Great banana and wheat aromas. A bit of spice, but mostly it's lovely sweet ripe fruit with some pungent yeast.

Taste is surprisingly tangy and a bit rough. There's more bitterness than I'd like, and not enough of those banana, yeast, and wheat flavors. Tastes a little like tonic water. Disappointing. Finishes bitter, drying out, but the bitter holds on still.

Mouthfeel - I find the carbonation to be too high, as the beer can't really settle down with all those bubbles flying around. Thin-bodied, as expected.

An okay beer, but not one I'll feel inclined to drink again. It's refreshing on a hot day, and I can finish the glass. But it's sharp and rough, with more bitterness and carbonation than I want from it, and it's missing those delicious fruit, wheat, and yeast flavors that the smell promised.

A: Bright gold with moderate carbonation, light color.

S: So-so in the scent department. Smell banana nut bread, but has a somewhat strange scent in the background that is not as pleasant.

T: Good taste, banana, wheat and some malt. Tastes far better than it smells.

M: Light and lively. It is lighter than you'd expect (some may call it a bit weak). I like the mouthfeel on a hot summer day, but may be a little disappointed otherwise.

O: A good, solid beer. Debating a 4.0 or 3.5 for this, but it is so easy to drink and doesn't leave any bad aftertaste that is earns a 4.0. Not anywhere as hoppy as many of Summit's creations, which is a relief when one needs a light summery, local brew.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance-Pale yellow gold with a slight cast of haze. Fluffy ivory-white head of moderate size with good retention.

Aroma-Typical hefeweizen characteristics are present, though light. Clove leads, followed by banana, with some bready wheat notes. Smell is to style, though not very impressive.

Flavor-Slight clove note with a bit of banana, followed by bready wheat. Finish has a quick twinge of carbonic acid, but is somewhat bland, with a very faint banana flavor appearing in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel-Medium light body, high, spritzy carbonation is almost effervescent on the palate. Leaves palate feeling refreshed.

I've enjoyed this much more on tap at the brewery and found it there to be a decent hefeweizen, though from the bottle its a little bit lifeless in terms of flavor and aroma. Quite drinkable, but it just doesn't stand out.
