Pours a lovely copper with a nice, fluffy bone white head, good lasting power, spider-webbing lacing up and down. The aroma definitely has a nice hop bill, a pronounced rye malt, very good. Similarly lots of hops on the tongue, the rye is great, there are some nice spices and the mouth is great, smooth, clean, carbonation is just right. A lovely beer, another great addition to the Unchained series.

On tap at the Blind Pig Brewery - Champaign, IL

Pours a rusty, brownish orange with a foamy khaki colored head with tons of chunky lacing as it slowly dissipates to a thin layer of foam atop the ale. Aromas are nutty, toasted rye bread, with some floral hops. Tastes are freshly baked rye bread, citrus, pine, and tobacco with a full-bodied mouth-feel that is followed by a sharp, bitter, astringent, peppery finish that leaves the palate bruised, so to speak. Alcohol is well concealed. Overall, this was a great treat! One of the best ryes I've had to date!

This brew poured out as a nice looking brown color and a foamy white colored head on top. The beer has a nice smelling hoppy brew with some spicy rye on the nose too. The flavor of the beer gave off some really nice flavors that were much like the nose of the beer. The mouthfeel of this beer was medium bodied and had a good drinkable quality to it. Overall I would probably drink this one again sometime.

First had: on tap at Race Street Cafe, Philly, PA

Poured into a pint glass, a clear, dark bronze with reddish tints, good carbonation, and a small cap of delicate white bubbles for a head. Rye profile comes through nicely in the aroma, with scents of sweet bready malts and light herbal hops. Strong flavor, with the smooth maltiness generally taking control, bready and earthy with nice crisp floral hops and a mellow bitterness. Medium mouthfeel, full of flavor, but not thick or filling. Quite drinkable.

12oz. bottle from Batch 3 enjoyed a little while back.

Poured into ma shapely Three Floyds pint glass and this pours a golden brown. A little hazy with some off-white head that leaves some lace behind. Smell is not terribly hop forward, but I'm getting some pine and perhaps a hint (a flutter if you will, but I won't) of citrus. A bunch of rye malt is in there and steals the show. Taste is pretty much the same. Not a lot of hops, but I am enjoying the flavor and could perhaps go for another. Good mouthfeel with appropriate carbonation. Very drinkable and rather sessionable.

12oz bottle, Batch 03.

Pours a very nice clear deep dark amber-reddish-brown with an inch of beige foam that lasts.

The aroma is very big on black tea, along with spicy rye, roast, and sweet malt. Very herbal hop profile, and a pinch of Skoal.

The flavor is big on rye and black tea. Some roast in there as well, along with sweet caramel malt and cereal grains. Herbal hop bitterness. The finish is big on tobacco, as if I had just popped in a pinch of Copenhagen. Most tobacco I've ever gotten from a beer, or anything other than tobacco itself for that matter.

Medium-bodied with soft carbonation and not much in the way of hop resins.

India style? Yeah, maybe the actual country of India. It sure isn't as hoppy as I thought it would be. Not a bad beer though, other than the excessive tobacco notes.

Had a bottle at Melange in Carbondale Illinois.

A: Pours a dark reddish/brown color. Nearly opaque. A two finger beige head slowly rises, and has good retention. Rings of sticky, spiderweb looking lace is left behind.
S: Just a great aroma. At first some spicy, citrus, and floral hops. A big rye bread aroma for a near perfect balance. Toasted malt that is lightly sweet. Lots of layers with excellent balance.
T: Big spicy, citrus, and floral hops again. A nice bready balance as well. Some sweetness. Very nice.
M/D: A medium to full body that has crisp carbonation. Though creamy and smooth at the same time. So easy to drink. The bottle was gone in no time, and I can enjoy this all night.

I love rye beers, and this is a really good one. Plenty of balance, and nuance. I am very happy I found some. Another really good beer from Summits Unchained Series. Highly recommended.

A: chestnut brown w/reddish highlights. Hazy. Tan head and nice lacing.
S: caramel, resiny/piney hops, dark bread, vague spice, and some fruity and citrusy hops underneath.
T: dark caramelly malts of medium sweetness are more than balanced out by a big hop bitterness which is sharp and a touch astringent. Lingering bitter hoppy finish is minty and spicy. some lingering slick sweetness.
M: medium body. Decent carbonation. roundish.
D: a nice effort from summit.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep golden brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized rye malts, some spice, a good amount of hops and a touch of fruit.

T: The taste starts out bready with a strong spicy grain flavor and a hearty malt character. Then a significant but not over-powering hops presence comes in to provides balancing bitterness. There are some mildly sweet flavors of caramel, tea & citrus in the background. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, while there's nothing outstanding in this beer, it's a very solid choice to drink for a long time.
