Drive to Lakewood and you'll find a lot of yuppies, heavy traffic and the Tipperary Inn. Nestled on a corner between Live Oak Street and a wine bar, this is a nice little Irish pub. One of the first things you'll notice when you walk in is the decor. The place looks really nice. However, it isn't "Irished up" like a lot of faux-Irish pubs. It just is what it is.

The Tipperary Inn has a full menu and a fine beer selection, although it must be said that the selection is not expansive. The food is very good and the service is excellent. You'll even hear an Irish accent or two from the staff.

I really like the Tipp and I can't wait for my next trip downtown.

The Tipperary is a wonderful family owned Irish pub located on the fringes of the Lakewood district. The place is nestled amongst the trees on a cornerstone and can easily be overlooked by the accidental tourist. Upon entering, one will feel that they just stepped off a boat in Ireland. The place is warm & inviting with soft lighting, rich wood paneling accenuated by stained glass panels, and traditional bar furnishings imported from the old country. The draught selection is mostly of UK origins, but there's a few Euro & US offerings as well as some ciders. The barstaff are very friendly and make an effort to serve the beers appropriately which makes the experience all the more enjoyable. The Tipperary was voted Best Guinness Pour by the Dallas Observer Critic's Pick in 2005. They have live Irish music on friday & saturday nights as well. The food menu is fairly expansive and high quality for pub grub. I enjoyed the Galway smoked salmon with baguettes, capers, & pickled onions on my last trip. The curry & chips are just the thing to keep one from drowning. The Tipp is a fine establishment for thirsty travelers and families are always welcome. Be certain to stop by for a taste of Ireland and a firkin pint!

Not what I'd call a beer bar... or even a bar, even though they have an entire 'bar.' Most of the place, including the bar is segregated off into sections, nice if you want one on one with someone, but not inviting to meeting new people. I remember the beer selection being decent, but nothing to write about. They do have Duvel, so I was happy on that most of the night. The food is excellent, and more of the reason you'd come here (I assume is traditional Irish style? I had a Guinness beef stew.)

The main turn off other than the lack of social opportunities is I was there around midnight on a Friday night and the place was bright (as in lighs were not dimmed) with 10-15 kids running around. Ah-la Chucky Irish Cheese vibe. I could see families liking this place more. Or an alternative to the Plano bars for single moms that can't find a baby sitter that night. :)

This a cool little traditional Irish pub in the Lakewood area of Dallas. They have good food and a pretty good selection of beers on tap. They have $2.50 pints of Guinness on Sundays and Irish music live and recorded throughout the week. The barstaff is all very friendly and knowledgable. They make it a very relaxing and enjoyable place to spend a weekend night partying with your friends or just a nice place to have a beer and lunch during the week. It is a tad on the expensive side, but not enough to make me not want to go there.
