Serving type - Bottle

A - Pours a slightly deeper than pilsner gold hue, with a white single-finger head that persists briefly, then fades to minimal lacing.

S - Smells like a maltier pilsner - Light, toasted caramel malts, slightly floral/grassy hop notes, and a slightly lemon character.

T - Taste is a bit unusual compared other Marzens I've had. This one is more like a German or Czech Pilsner, but a bit maltier. Good degree of balance between light, toasty, caramel malts, and a slightly citric, floral hop character. Pretty refreshing!

M - Light/Medium mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Crisp, refreshing.

D - Between a lighter body, and a not too heavy flavor or alcohol profile, this one isn't taking me too long to drink. I could have several of these, no problem.

Overall - Not quite what I think of when I think of Marzen, but a pretty good, sessionable lager nonetheless.

Appearance: Clear and pale...golden/yellow. Not much head to speak of, or even a cap. Color is unusual for an Oktoberfest.

Aroma: Again, unusual for the style. I can detect hops more so than anything else, reminding me more of a pilsner than a marzen. Some traces of malts.

Taste: Mostly hops, and very little malts, even though I can get a hint of it. As many other reviewers have pointed out, this is very much like a pilsner, rather than a marzen/oktoberfest. Then again, Erdinger makes one that is more like a hefeweizen, so deviation is fine I guess?

Mouthfeel: Light, and crisp. Goes down well, the hops basically finishing it off. Going down seems to have a lot more carbonation, again, something uncharacteristic of this style.

Drinkability: Crisp, light and refreshing with an unoffensive taste, albeit odd. I do like some deviation from the style in beers, but this one seems to be jumping ship completely. Still, I could have a few of these with ease.

I picked up a six pack of this last night. I had the beer out a 12 oz green bottle. There is a freshness date label on the back, it reads L134D 1050. I have no idea what that translates to.

This beer appears a light golden color. Lighter then most of the other Oktoberfests I have been trying recently. Decent head, but disappears fairly quickly. Noticable lacings.

Sweet malt flavor with a grassy finish. Nice beer that reminds me of a German Pilsner. Not sure if I would get this again with all of the other options out there for this style, but this was enjoyable.

What I like about this Oktoberfest is that for a relatively high ABV %, it's a very easy to drink beer. It pours an unimpressive, bubbly straw color with a slight foamy head. The smell is grainy, slightly fruity, a subtle aroma of malt with a good amount of carbonation, but it's not overwhelming. The taste is grainy/malty -- a slight kick to it, but again, just a very easy to drink beer. All in all, a very good session beer for the late summer/early fall months.
