Enjoyed 2 bottles on 10-29-23 while sitting in a hotel room in Van Buren Arkansas. Also enjoying 3 bottles 12-3-23. Bottled 12-20-22

Beer poured brown with a nice white head.

Nose is toasted malts and dark fruits.

Taste is a toasted malt base that gives me notes of marmalade, honey, and dates. Finishes balanced with a tastiness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.

Overall i am glad to have the opportunity to try.

11.2oz bottle purchased from the fridge as part of a 6-pack for $12.49. There is some kind of code on the bottom of the back label. It says L 354V. I wonder if this means that it was bottled in December 2022? If so, this would be four months old. I cannot understand why I Maibock would be released in December.

Look: Pours a very pretty perfectly clear reddish amber color with an impressive one-finger of beige-colored head. Nice head retention also. Another interesting observation is that the beer is now bottled in a brown glass bottle instead of a green glass bottle as the picture on BA indicates.

Smell: The aromas are similar to what I get with an Oktoberfest Marzen - very malty, bready, perhaps a more-pronounced hop presence with some floral and overall very earthy, slightly grassy and cirtusy hops. The nose is making me salivate so let's dive in.

Taste: This is very nice. The flavors on the palate mimic the nose pretty closely. Up front, there are nice malty notes of dark bread, and then you get a very crisp finish with spicy, citrusy hops. The finish is moderately bitter and it lingers long. Very earthy, nutty, and peppery finish. The 7.2% ABV is very well-hidden. After the hoppy finish fades, this almost reminds me of a nut brown ale because the malts are so nutty and there are interesting underlying chocolate and coffee notes that eventually come through on the palate.

Feel: Nicely carbonated. It's medium bodied, perhaps medium plus. It has a bit of a "chew" to it, which is nice.

Overall: This is a very decent and enjoyable beer. It would be a good food beer. My only knock on it would be that it's a bit simple, but hey sometimes simple is good especially if it's well-made. I will have to try a Rogue Dead Guy again; it's been way too many years since I have had one. If an Oktoberfest Marzen beer is a Philly pretzel, then this beer is a pumpernickel or marble rye pretzel.

From the label: In 1614 the famous "Maibock" was brewed for the first time. Brewing Maibock in Bavaria was a privilege of the Duke of Bavaria till 1818. Munich citizens enjoy this amber coloured, delicious beverage especially in springtime.

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep golden color with a moderate off-white head. SRM of 12-13. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of German bread malt, toasted bread, smooth honey and caramel. (3.50)

Flavor: Moderate flaovrs of bread malt, toasted bread ,caramel. Very bready, somewhat sweet. (4.00)

Feel: Medium-bodied, strong carbonation. Toasted somewhat clean. (3.75)

Compared to Ayinger Oktoberfest 3/2023: Pours darker, similar head. Milder aromas. More smooth honey malt. Less floral and toasted flavors. More smooth, similar sweetness. Less flavor overall. Winner: Ayinger

Overall: This one was pretty much as expected. Lightly toasted. Very bready. Leans sweet and smooth from the honey. Fairly mild. Flavor definitely emerges as it warms. Leans sweet as expected. Pretty good, could be better could be a lot worse. (Rating: 3.84)

Poured this into a clear pint glass. The color was almost a copper color but more of a golden amber with an off-white head of foam. The smell was very different after drinking pilsner, heavy hop, and stouts types. Not bad for a change.

vom Fass (draft)

Look:
Bright and clear amber that can appear to drift towards orange. 2+ fingers beige to khaki head that refuses to significantly dissipate for a very long time. Lacing is OK. Tons of bubbles keep rising to the top of the beer and keep on doing so for some time.

Smell:
Very much a significantly dialed-up Oktoberfest (esp. a Marzen). Very bready and even sweet malts that have some caramel notes but also a deeper toasted bread (crusts?) note as well. Somewhat spicy and earthy hops form a nice counterpoint that more than balances things out.

Taste:
Much the same as the nose. The deeply toasted malts are dominant early, along with the caramel and even some honey. Things turn dry, earthy, and mildly bitter fairly quickly, however. Fresh cut grass and hay are present in the mix.

Feel:
Soft but slick and even a tad syrupy (though not overly so). An alcohol warmth can be felt. The body is between medium and medium-full.

Overall:
A pretty solid Maibock. Quite tasty and delicious. And surprisingly easy to drink for what it is. This very much resembles a significantly amped-up Marzen (or maybe a Vienna Lager) with hops enough to balance but not dominate. I have had other Maibocks in this vein and the aroma/flavor/feel profile is how I prefer Maiblocks to be.

Bottled 1/25/22; drank 9/4/22 @ the Yarchives (so yeah, not super fresh).

See-through orange/red rust appearance.

An even pour yielded a nice khaki head; nice lace.

Mild caramel & acorn notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Caramel, acorn & mineral water flavors; pretty simple but tasty. I'd have another!

Color is a watered down coke. Head was slightly tan. Nose was somewhat bitter. Taste was malty with an after taste similar to hoarhound candy from childhood. Good beer.

(330 ml bottle, L 025V; purchased single off shelf at Shangy's this week... poured into a 14 oz mug)

L: brilliantly-clear, tawny-colored liquid; semi-tight, but big-bubbled, shades off-white foam stand... the cap takes awhile to fade away from the collar... thin lace ring at the top

S: similar to the paler Maibocks I'm more familiar with, but with a mildly more caramelly, deeper-toasted bread crustier tone, which seems to perhaps bury (or fight) the characteristically earthy, herbal hops and alcohol spice that, again, I'm more used to... excellent intensity, inviting

T: again, the flavors follow the aromas, with the implied deeper toastier malts really blossoming and initially charging to the fore, only to pull back into an almost supporting role to the booze and bold bitter bite... craving those lighter malt flavors, though the spice hop flavors are keeping me satisfied

F: bouncy, wet-silky body; carbonation, booze, and popping bitterness spanking the palate, the rosy heat lingering

O: pretty darn solid, though as I've said more caramelly and crustier than I'm accustomed to with this style... then again, a couple of HB's lagers don't necessarily follow textbook guidelines (1969)

Smells malty with a sharp boozyness. The taste is darker than I expected, but not like a stout. Very malty flavor- heavy on dark bread and caramel. Moderate carbonation with a finish that’s not too dry and a slight bitter lens’s that is pleasant. It’s heavier than I really expected it to be, but I genuinely enjoyed it.
