On tap at zum Schneider, served into a small HB München mug; Aug 19, 09.

A - dark cloudy brown with tinges of orange; big 2.5 fingers head, with excellent retention and massive lacing. a great looking beer, and especially one for the style.

S - Smells almost like a complicated weizen. a big wheat presence as with a very noticeable cardamom note; the mid ground is a medium strength banana flavour. a decent smelling brew, but not particularly deep, complex, or all that potent. light and slightly wheaty with minimal hops, which are bitter. bottom notes are slightly yeasty, with more of a concentrated malt and wheat sweetness.

T - initial taste is a bit weak, but has the standard array of flavours for a weizen, even thought this is supposedly a kellerbier. pretty much a weaker weihenstephan, so says the notes. good banana and cardamom; would be almost a five if it were a weißbier. not very characteristic of a kellerbier.

MF&D - the taste is pretty incredible, and I loved it, which raises the drinkability inevitably. the body is wholly medium, with ample carbonation. a true medium blend.

.5L mug poured from tap. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a soft white head. Smell is bready and malty. Taste is sweet, malty, some herbal hops, a bit of grape skin. Feel is medium bodied, smooth and easy to drink. A nice clean finish rounds it out. Very good beer, no standout flavors per se, but tasty and easy to drink nonetheless.

From the bottle, it pours a slightly hazy golden color with a nice white head that slowly reduces. The scent is bread and a bit happy. The taste is bready with a nice hoppy/yeasty bite. Refreshing!

Pours a cloudy, dark amber coloration with a large, frothy, lasting head and visible carbonation. Smells of bready, grainy malt and grassy, slightly floral hops, although the aroma is a little subdued. Taste is an excellent balance of bready, grainy malt and grassy, herbal and slightly floral hops, with just a hint of orange rind citrus accents coming through as well. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some bready/grainy malt, grassy/herbal hops and orange rind lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is quite aptly named, offering a somewhat brighter, hoppier and more refreshing Kellerbier experience with an excellent malt/ hop balance and good bitterness in the finish. While the slightly sweet, bready and grainy malts are initially quite prominent, the grassy, herbal and slightly floral and citrussy hops really gather momentum towards the finish, culminating in a great, soft bitterness. Overall, this really manages a great balancing act between sweet malts and bitter hops, making for quite an enjoyable, hoppy and refreshing summer beer with a distinct malt character.

a really solid unfiltered lager here, a bit sweeter and fuller than some of their others, and less distinct on the yeast too, almost more generic, but a beer of excellent quality overall and something that went down way too fast. its foggy and lightly orange, heavier looking than their cleaner lagers, but with the same high white irregular white head i look for in their brews. it smells quintessentially german, malt forward but not sweet, biscuity in the actually baked biscuits sense, and with a great yeast strain, timeless and ancient, albeit a little muted in the overall balance here. subtle orange rind, porridge, and minerals, a faint hint of astringency on the back end too, but then its clean after that. this seems like its been a beer forever, and i love that about the heritage german brands, but this also feels somewhat contemporary, different than other unfiltered lagers, perhaps oddly hoppier too, although im not positive thats what creates this vibe for me. cool beer, rad to encounter it on draft for the first time, probably couldnt have five of them, but one was nice, especially in their own branded glassware!

Cerveza de baja carbonatación y cuerpo medio. Tiene un dedo de espuma de buena retención. Aroma a malta, hierbas y pan. En boca destaca la malta dejando un buen sabor de boca.

Look: Hazy dark gold with a lot of carbonation bubbles rising from the bottom. 3 fingers of thick white head with decent retention.

Smell: Mild, slightly sour bready malt. Grainy note not unlike a single malt scotch.

Taste: Mild and grainy. A small hint of hop bitterness with little flavor. Hard to identify anything distinct.

Mouthfeel: Good body with decent carbonation to balance.

Overall: While relatively refreshing for the summer, it fails to truly stand out except as a more flavorful alternative to adjunct lagers in the park.

De Hipercor. En copa de hefe de Bavaria. En cena, con bocata de melva. Tras partido de futbito. Mucha malta fresquisima, que se percibe nada mas olerla, y una sensacion en boca genial que hace que te entren ganas de beberla de un trago

On-tap @ Newportville Inn in Levittown, PA.

Light gold color and cloudy with a big, creamy, white head that sticks around for a while. Subtle, balanced aroma of fresh bready malt, herbal noble hops, and slightly fruity yeast. Balanced flavor as well, with some light sweetness from the malt. Medium-light bodied, smooth and creamy. A very clean and easy drinking beer.

On tap at the Hofbrauhaus in St Petersburg (FL). Surprising addition to the seasonal list and one of my favorite styles. Hazy gold in the official Hofbrauhaus glass stein with a heavy head of off-white foam. Malt with a hint of light hops in the nose. Initial taste was similar, with hops taking a back seat as the beer warmed. Very balanced flavor, with a subtle bitterness in the aftertaste that I found welcome, given that it was a pretty big beer. Excellent experience overall, both beer and atmosphere.
