Hofbräu Münchner Kindl Weizen, vom Faß beim Hahndorf Inn, Südaustralien.

App: Amber, only partially cloudy, very bubbly. Served with a lemon in a HB glass. Lemon killed the head but it retained a bit after I took it out and disturbed it a bit.

Smell: Refreshing weizen grassy hayy hops smell. phenolic with banana esters. Not exactly citric but refreshing acidic aroma.

Taste: Strange chalky taste on the palate. Served very cold, difficult to discern other characters. Banana on back of tongue. Not massively complex, quite watery, but a little bitter. Onion, banana, limestone.

MF: Thin but pleasant effervescence. Average.

Drinkability: Bloating and watery. Drinkable, but not interesting for long enough. Needs to be followed by a dunkel lager/weizen or a bock/weizenbock.

Pleasant, above-average beer.

I made sure to agitate the bottom of the bottle before pouring in order to suspend some of the yeast, since the beer was quite clear in the bottle. It poured a cloudy straw yellow with an inch of fine white foam, which promptly collapsed into a collar and thin skim of bubbles coating the surface of the beer. It did leave a bit of streaky lacing on the glass as it fell, but nothing to write home about. Nice aroma, lots of banana and a little lemon, cloves, a bit of bubblegum, some earthy and bready wheat. The flavours weren't as bold as the aroma and it ended up tasting a bit thin. Tastes were limited to fruity sweetness (lemon and banana), dry bready yeast, and faint cloves. The body was light, bordering on thin, but with a pleasant smoothness of texture that made it work. This really isn't a bad beer, I'm just not sold on the flavour profile. If the aromas were more closely duplicated in the taste, I'd like it a lot more.

Poured into a standard pint glass. Cloudy straw color with little to no head. Smells of semi sweet malts with cloves and some bananas. Taste is of banana and sweet clove and some malty notes. Light bodied with not much of an aftertaste. Good introductory to German Hefe's.

Pours a hazy golden color with a big, fluffy white head taht lasts for a long time. Not a bad start.

Aroma was of wheat and rather dusty. Some hints of clove, but that was all. Rather dissapointing.

Taste was dry, citrus, wheat and some spices. Again, it did not deliver a powerful statement.

Mouthfeel was dry, lightly cleansing. It was very spritzy on the tongue.

Overall, this beer is drinkable, but not a great beer of the style by any stretch of the imagination.

Recently I have been tackling the Hefe Weizen style and gaining more and more appreciation for it. This beer, however, did not go over well with me. It seemed to have died in the bottle. All the flavors were seriously muted or missing. The beer may have been to cold or too old. I took notes at a German Bar this evening I was underwhelmed with this beer.

Appearance: Beige with hints of orange and massive carbonation.

Smell: The aroma is so reserve that I couldn't find any of the yeasty flavors or banana flavors that I have become accustomed too in Hefe's. There was wheat malts and maybe using a lot of imagination a drop of lemon but that’s it.

Taste & Mouthfeel: The carbonation was so high it was distracting. there was a hint of pepper zesty in the carbonation that has poking me and honestly a bit annoying. The flavor overall was decent. A hint of lemon did show up in the flavor but the beer appears to be filtered or at least not bottle conditioned and there was no sign of the yeasty character. Simply put; uninspired. IMO

Drinkability: If you are thirsty and you can get pasty the zippy spritzer feel then this beer could be quite refreshing. Like Wheat water with a lemon. It is not that this is a bad beer, it's just with all the great Hefe’s available this one is a bit flat and nothing special to me.

Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

On draught served in a 25 oz mug (~.75L), Hofbräu Hefe Weisse is a cloudy dull gold with a small white head leaving scattered, foamy lace.

Smell is very pithy, minerals, a bit of citrus really, even though there no lemon served thankfully, at this actually authentic German bar.

Taste is pretty spicy, again lots of mineral pith, the wheat brings some spice, not much in the way of the classic Bavarian esters of banana or clove. Not my favorite by any stretch as it's more wheaty then anything else, almost saison like, clean though.

Mouthfeel is dry and crisp side, medium light bodied.

Drinkability is average. It's certainly quenching, and while it has some weizen character, it's not bringing the Bavarian yeast notes I love in the style.

A lesser beer at this location, this brew was disappointing in its presentation, being quite cloudy and missing a decent head. The nose was a bit rude and gave off a sour sense which followed through in the flavor. Not a great fan of this style I was pleased to see that it was less clovish than many others. Definitely my last choice of the Hofbrauhaus beers.

Cloudy hazy pale yellow color, with a small white head that doesn't stick around. Light banana-clove aroma, light wheaty, yeasty flavors, very light in body, somewhat watery mouthfeel, finishes too sweet, bland and uninteresting, not very much going on here.

Poured the 16.9oz bottle into my Weizen glass.

A: golden body with orange tones and small one finger foamy head that faded rather quickly. A bit disappointing.

S: wheat, cloves, lemon and hints of banana. A bit plain, but still enjoyable.

T: follows the nose in part with lemon and banana. A bit of apple is also felt and finishes off with spiciness

M: medium body, carbonation was a bit high I thought.

O: I was a bit disappointed with this one. I'm a huge Hefeweizen fan but this one didn't catch my attention. It felt very plain and didn't offer anything that wowed me.

Pours a nice rocky head and leaves a lot of lacing down the glass. Great appearance for this hefeweizen. Taste is very "mainstream" with some of the "Beck's-Pauli Girl" metallic smell and taste. It is not as bad as the former beers, but still noticeable. With that being said, it is pretty smooth, light and crisp and fairly easy to drink. Just not a great beer.

A delightful vibrant, not lazy yellow, cloud and haze just like I like it. Smell, fragrant, break out the lemon zest yo! Taste, no hop quality like I was hoping for a blast of Saaz or something, but its alright, its still decent tasting for a hefe.

Mouthfeel, meh, doesn't develop. Beer goes downhill in the second half. Got me excited there for a bit. Usual mix of estery yeast, banana, clove. . . many of the things I try and avoid in a hefe, which is hard to do since they are hallmarks of the style.

Poured from an 11.2 ounce green bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: Cloudy yellow with big white head. Only spots of lacing.

Smell: My first ever skunked hefe. Why oh why do people insist on using green bottles? I can still tell it's a wheat beer past the skunk.

Taste: Very light compared to other German hefes. Skunkiness is still present in the taste but not as bad as it is in the smell.

Lighter pale color with lots of bubbles rising to the top. Good carbonation throughout. Smell is a touch banana, not much spice, and lots of dry wheatiness. Taste lacks the usual yeasty goodness I like in a hefe. A bit bland for what I was expecting. More wheat and less spice and fruitiness than I like. Just not my type of hefe. Good body and carbonation though.
