This hefe is med-dark orange for the style, and has a bubbly white head. Wheat and citrus on the nose. Classic hefe characteristics, for a german version this is more citrusy/lemony then some of the others that ive had. Creamy mouthfeel, some acidic notes. Time and time again the german hefes are proving their superiority, this one isnt my favorite but it is solid.

Had on tap at Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas. Hazy golden yellow color with a 1" fluffy head. Some lacing developed. The aroma was light as some wheat was detectable. The flavor was of wheat and mild bananas. Some sweetness arrives on the tongue as you swallow this. The flavor was simple and not overpowering as some other hefeweizens are.

This was smooth and had a soft wheat finish. Nicely drinkable and was a nice finish to my stay at the restaurant.

Nice cloudy, flaxen hefe weizen color. Taste is classic german hefe weizen, with banana and just a hint of clove. The flavors are well balanced and the beer is very smooth. In fact, it almost has what I'd call a mild flavor, sort of a like a Paulaner but not as strong a flavor. Carbonation is not too high and not too low, perfect in my book. An excellent HW worth a second offering. Cheers!

Sampled on tap at the Las Vegas Hofbräuhaus.

This beer poured a cloudy, light brown-amber color with tall, pillowy foam that persisted and clung to the glass -- very nice. The smell was modest: a "clean" smell with some grain/wheat. The taste was malty with very faint banana, a bit of caramel, and some hops in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium body and moderate carbonation. The aftertaste was a pleasant, mild flavor of caramel and banana. This was an enjoyable and decent dark wheat beer.

.5 L bottle served chilled in a tall pilsner glass. My bottle is identical to the one pictured. I should note the name on the label is different than the beer's name in the db.

Appearance: Hazy dark yellow with a huge thick white head. It settled down to a healthy layer of foam eventually. Little specks of foam were left here and there.

Smell: Textbook smells of cloves, lemons, and bananas. Just a hint of bubblegum. Nice, but I like just a titch more of these aromas please.

Taste: Crisp bready malts with aftertastes of cloves and citrus. Banana esters are far off in the mist. Ever so slightly sour.

Mouthfeel: Refreshing and light in body, like a hefe orta be.

Drinkability: I could consume this beer in mass quantities with ease. Very tasty and a decent hefe.

Bought in a Moscow supermarket, this beer comes in a green 12 oz. (355ml - gee, guess it's bottled for the U.S. market - yup, back label includes refund info for various states) bottle with a blue and white label featuring the facade of, what else?, the Hofbräuhaus. Purity law applies. Only the Russian import label slapped on the side has the freshness date: best before 8/28/04, I opened it on 2/23/04.

Pours a fairly clear (this is a Hefeweizen, right) light gold under a one finger head that fades to film quite quickly, leaving minimal lace. The nose is very, very mild - just the slightest hint of the necessary clove and yeast. The mouth is light and prickly. The taste is sweet and spicey, like a wheat beer should have, but it is very, very subdued - almost watered down. It's not bad, but there's very little substance here. No discernible hops, but no surprise there. The aftertaste is sweet spice, as it should be. Sure, this is drinkable, but there are much better examples of the style.

--large, brown bottle with freshness date stamped on back.
--nice, large head that slimmed but stayed until the end. Minor lacing.
--cloudy, dirty straw like in color
--a wheat smell, with a slight hint of citric

Overall a nice beer to drink. It didn't jump out in any way but I must say that I liked it. I would drink this one again.

12 oz. green bottle not available in the 15.9 oz. brown bottles that would have been preferred, but anyway here we go. Appearance: Cloudy golden tone with a nice billowing highly carbonated effervescent white head leaving behind specks of lace with each sip. Aroma: Starts out very skunky especially after cracking the bottle however, it becomes tamer after pouring in the settlement and letting it sit for a minute. More banana clove tones arise with the sharply sweet malt profile this one comes together, I thought it was a tradgedy but it's not bad at all topped off with a European hop dosage. Taste: Mellow but smooth rolling yeast tones of banana and cloves this has a nice citrusy flow to it as well with the sharp sweetness bringing a bit of a tart tone to the overall profile and balanced with herbal hops nice. Mouthfeel: Spritzy light to medium in body very nice summer brew. Drinkability: Tasty goes down and flavorful this one gets my vote as an authentic Bavarian style weizen.

Hofbrauhaus Newport,KY. (Cincinnati, OH.)
Medium cloudy yellow color. Foamy rich white head. Nicel lacing down the glass. Lots of clove and sweet sugar yeasty weissbier smells. Loads of bananas and herbs. Pretty spot on flavors, freshness is evident, nice yeasty richness, and crisp herbal finish. Very good weissbeir. Crisp, light to medium bodied, plenty of tangy sweetness. I would really like to pair this with some potato pancakes or something else thick and heavy. A good example of the style.

Hofbrauhaus-Newport.

Cloudy yellow body topped by a moderate white head. Aroma was a little hoppy and had nice clove scents, but seemed to lack the banana bread notes that many hefes show. Taste was crisp and satisfying with a nice hop note on the finish. Mouthfeel was lighter but not weak. Drinkability was very good. Overall, tasted very fresh and complimented the food well. A nice beer.

A very solid german hefe. Not at all on the level of Schneider, but certainly worth drinking.

Pours a cloudly straw gold, with a thick, foamy and ebullient head. Nose betrays some banana esters and wheat graininess.... Taste follows suit. Light, pleasant, drinkable, but not exceptional in any real regard. Which is not to knock the beer - I quite like it.

Another solid German Hefe...although not in the top tier in my opinion...pours a cloudy golden with a big fluffy white head of about two inches...that diminishes to abouit an 1/8 of an inch as you drink but it spiderwebs the sides of the glass nicely...The nose is bready and malty with a hint of lemongrass...body is medium-to-light....a refreshing light lemon flavor set against a bready malt backbone..

A decent enough German Hefe but one I will not buy again because I liked several others better..definitely worth trying...

Having this beer on tap was incredible. Nice formed white head in a tradtional Hefe glass as Zum Schneider in NYC on a summer night, sitting outside was wonderful. Tasty and smooth, this beer had the perfect balance of tangy flavors combined with other fruity yeast textures. This beer was easy to drink, I could have stayed all night. A fine example, and so fresh, which makes a huge difference.

This brew poured a very light golden, almost yellow hue and murky.
Two fisted head which quickly disapated to 3 fingers, and tight high bubbles.
Carbonation seems light but may be disguised by the murky body.
Second glass from this bottle poured with less head but still high.
Aroma is lemony.
The taste is well balanced with a slight malty edge and of short duration.

Poured slowly into a Weissbier glass, it produced a thick, 2" white slab of foam atop a slightly hazy, rich golden-colored brew. Bubbles of carbonation make a bee-line for the surface in an eruption of activity. Pouring a bit more bier into the glass leaves a small, sinkhole-like depression in the slab of foam. Lacing was minimal, at best.
Best I can say about the nose is that it had a bit of bready malt, though exceedingly mild. Even the later introduction of the yeasties into the glass failed to raise the aroma profile at all.
Body of this bier was leaning a bit towards the lesser side of medium. There was a slight bit of prickliness on the tongue, though not nearly as much as all the carbonation might suggest.
Doesn't seem to be the abundance of flavors here typically present in a Bavarian Hefe. Slightly crackery malt joins with a subtle citrussy flavor. The Bier is crisp and dry throughout. I was unable to detect much, if any, banana or clove flavors, though. I later added the yeasties with about 1/3 of the glass left, yet it made no noticeable change in the taste. In general, a rather un-inspiring bier. Oh well... Zum Wohl!!

Presentation: 12 oz green bottle with a no freshness date.

Appearance: Cloudy pale golden beige colour with a trademark wheat beer tiny bubbled lace.

Smell: Fresh wheat malt in the nose, hints of lemon and powdery yeast as well.

Taste: So crisp and smooth, there is lots of fresh fermented wheat flavour that it creates bit of a twang. Quite malty with a spicy phenolic and faintly bitter hop to balance. A powdery yeast tries to dry the palate. A touch fruity with pear in the back and vague banana in the front with some alcoholic esters wavering in the finish.

Notes: Perfectly balanced for the style and extremely drinkable, its right up there in greatness with the rest of the quality German wheat beers.

A great German wheat beer in a bottle that made the voyage to Pennsylvania. Citrusy and clove with low carbonation for a wheat beer. Cloudy beautiful Belgian lace as the beer is drank form a Wheat glass. One of the better one's that I've had in a while. Good body and head character. Very thirst quenching and refreshing.

Pours with a thick, lasting head. Lace continues through glass. Light, copper in color. Has a very strong sent of wheat.
Had a slight rusting taste to it. Left an acidic taste on the tip of the tongue. Overall disappointing, as it begins with such favorable characteristics (aroma and look). But the taste is 180 degrees off from what I expected. Perhaps I had a bad bottle. Will be willing to give this one a second try.

Served with lemon.

A lesser beer at this location, this brew was disappointing in its presentation, being quite cloudy and missing a decent head. The nose was a bit rude and gave off a sour sense which followed through in the flavor. Not a great fan of this style I was pleased to see that it was less clovish than many others. Definitely my last choice of the Hofbrauhaus beers.

This beer is so cloudy it looks like lemonade. They only serve this one in half-liter glasses for some reason. No head on the beer the frauline served me. It is extremely wild and yeasty smelling, very snappy on the nose.

First taste has such an over the top wheat and yeast presence, very strong lemon, orange, wheat tones. In fact it tastes so strong of the wheat and yeast it almost comes across cinnamon-like if that makes sense. Man, does this even contain hops at all???

Throughout this beer, all I can think about are the tasty wheat and yeast levels, the hops are nearly forgotten. They are there at the end if you exercise a little patience, but they are definitely *not* the point of this beer. Simply outstanding, I was expecting a wheaty, very yeasty beer, in fact I took an allergy pill before I went to the place. I'll tell you this, it's a good thing I did. If you have seasonal allergies, this beer is going to trigger them big time. Do the Zyrtec, Allegra, whatever the heck you gotta take, 'cause this is an awesome Weizen.

This beer poured a cloudy pale yellow with a fair head. The aroma was more subtle than the taste. It would make a very good beer to introduce someone to a wheat beer. There was only a slight smell of cloves and no bananas. The taste was stronger of cloves. It was not the wheat beer that I had last year in Munich, but Arlington, Texas ain't Germany.

Appearance: Quite cloudy medium golden color with lots of sediment (a portion of the beer was swirled in the bottle prior to pouring). The off-white head was of moderate size with lots of broken lace.

Aroma: Very pronounced clove notes, ripe bananas, other fruits, and a distinct pepper note.

Taste: Begins with wheat malt, and a touch of soft carbonation, soon followed by yeast, lemon, cloves, and ripe banana notes. Finishes dry with a spicy ginger and pepper note.

Mouth feel: Nothing spectacular, but reasonably smooth.

Drinkability/notes: The label on my bottle reads ‘Münchner Kindl Hefe Weizen’, but sources on the web indicate that this is the same beer as ‘Münchner Kindl Weissbier’. Go figure…

Not a great German wheat but I honestly don't know whether the bottle I sampled was very fresh or not. A little darker than most wheats but not as dark as Schneider Weisse. Nice fluffy head and looks great but the flavor was lacking. A little sweeter for a Weizen and doesn't posess the clove/wheat flavors I've grown to expect. I actually tried this in downtown Munich a few years ago but don't remember it because I drank so many others while there. I'm sure it would be better on draught.

Pours a hazy golden color with a tremendous rocky white head that slowly fades into a creamy lace leaving spider webs across the glass as it dissipates. Nose is sweet banana, lemony citrus, and a touch of spicy clove. Lots of wheat flavor in the initial taste followed by some lemon fruitiness and spicy clove. A dry yeasty flavor is present in the end. A nice Hefe but nothing special.
