11.2oz bottle (L 135 L 09:07) poured into a 200mL Rastel Pokal Bitburger glass.
Appearance: Clear dark copper color. Off-white head which died back fairly quickly to just be a ring at the edge of the glass. Some lacing that kept sliding down the glass over time.
Smell: Tiny bit of metallic, tiny bit of skunk, otherwise mostly caramelized malt and some German noble hops.
Taste: Malty, but nicely balanced with noble hop spiciness/bitterness at the end. Simple but tasty.
Mouthfeel: High carbonation approaching fizzy. Some spiciness on the tongue.
Overall / Drinkability: Other than being a bit too carbonated, I could easily see myself having a full liter of this over a good meal. A very simple and tasty beer that is quite drinkable and impressive in its simple flavor and aroma profile. I think I like this far better than the original Hofbrau.

Appearance: dark amber red color. Half a finger of creamy off white head on the pour which settled in to a thin layer across the top while drinking. Active carbonation is above average for the style.
Smell: Overly sweet toffee jumps out right away. There are some slightly skunky, funky tones going on here as well. Dark fruits and oak show up on the body. Sweetness runs throughout and dominates, to a fault.
Taste: Toffee and caramel hit first. The body is mossy, earthy with accents of oak and some dark fruits. These flavors all come together, but slowly fade into a slightly dry finish with some lingering sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Nothing really note worthy at all here. Carbonation doesn't play a part and no notable lingering textures keep you interested.
Overall: Very disappointed by this. Loved the other Hofbrau offerings I've had, this just has none of the characteristics I look for in a dunkel. I'll stick with the Original and Hefe.
