The Hofbrauhaus... Best beer hall in all of germany I reckon. I was expecting Disneyland like most people but instead I had a great time.

We went during October, and there was not many tourists. People were singing and dancing, the atmosphere was great.

The beer selection was limited, but what was on offer was great. I had an original and the dunkle. Both went down well with my Knusprige Schweinshax'n min Reiberknodel und Speckkrautsalat. (Roasted pork knuckle with potato dumpling & cabbage salad)

Service was great, and it was reletively clean. During the day, the beergarden is a nice place to relax and have lunch.

I thoroughly recommend the Hofbrauhaus. I PITY THE FOOL, that goes to Munich and doesn't visit this place.

Also, try the Roasted Pork Knuckle. You won't be sorry. (803 characters)

For the overall experience, this world famous beer hall deserves a perfect score. My score (4.85) is balancing their many excellent beers and very good food, as well as service (friendly but swift). For anyone lucky enough to visit Munich, this is a must. (255 characters)

Great place, good food, and plenty of freshly brewed beer. At first it seems a bit touristy, but after while you find yourself talking to complete strangers from all over the globe. Don't expect to get off cheap either, but I would gladly invest in the experience again.

My two lifelong buddies visited Munchen and this is the first place on our list of places to go. We ended up frequenting Hofbrauhaus three times during our stay. Wow. We visited Europe in mid to late April. Not crowded anywhere but here. We sampled all of the beers but our favorite ended up being the hefewissen's. This place is so international. We met Germans, English, Australians, Swiss, and Brazilians. The Germans were incredibly friendly and one even brought us soccer tickets for a match the next day. The place was crowded, lively and fun. The oumpa band was playing and the overall atmosphere made it easily conducive to drinking great German beer with friends. One of my all-time favorite places and memories. (721 characters)

What a fantastic place.

Went there on a Friday night and loved every minute. The atmosphere was overwhelming, riding high with the energy of the band and the crowd that overflowed through the hall. The quality was great, and the servers were even better. They were understaffed while I was there, but they were giving it their all with sweat dripping off them to get us our beer in a reasonable time. The selection was simple and excellent and the food was really good too. Not a cheap evening, but very worth it. (514 characters)

The history, the beer, the food, the music, the most renowned German Beer Hall probably in the entire country of Germany is The Hofbrauhaus. This place is dream. Prices are a little high but you don't need to drink much to get have a good time here. The only negative side to this place is that it is full of tourists. Lowenbrau or Spaten are the better choices if you want to avoid that scene but nonetheless this place is great. (430 characters)

I had one of my most enjoyable meals in Germany here.

The restaurant section on the second floor is large and open. Full of old Bavarian style decor and a ceiling trimmed with tracings of paint, the atmosphere is something to behold. Handcrafted 'Hofbrauhaus' chairs offer a classy touch.

The food is absolutely exceptional, as is the beer. My meal, 'Bratwurst Hofbrau style' was delectible, as was the side dishes that accompined it. My friend had ordered Potato Salad as a side and when I asked for one as well the surcharge was a meer 1 euro. The food prices were extremely reasonable from the regular menu. Hofbrau offers daily specials as well. They are excpetionally cheap and the special my friend ordered was very enjoyable.

Service is also quite good. The waiters are prompt, orderly, and extremely friendly. The ones I had spoken to were bilingual and had no hesitations about speaking English.

I throughly enjoyed and recommend Hofbrau for lunch, dinner, or a night of beer and fun. (1,005 characters)

One of the best places in Munich.

This place is amazing, the service is super fast (20-40 seconds and the beer is on your table), the atmosphere is amazing (along with traditional music that played occasionally), I ordered potatoes too, and they were superb!

No words to explain this place, maybe videos will help...

If you're in Munich - You MUST try this place (I've been there almost 3 hours straight) (408 characters)

A staple of beer lore. You cannot go to Munich and not stop by the Hofbrauhaus. It only takes one or two litres to get the juices flowing. The sounds of Bavarian music, coupled with traditional Bavarian waitresses made for an incredible atmosphere.

The food was good, but only a fair value for the price. You're obviously paying for more than just the food. The beers are actually reasonably priced, or at least what I was expecting to pay.

Overall, this place is great, and I fully intend to return each time I visit Munich--if I am ever so lucky. (555 characters)

THE destination that I HAD to visit when in Munich. I got excited just seeing the building. Walking in was the beginning of the experience. Bavarian culture at its finest. The band playing drinking songs, the benches, people from all over the world, good food and the beer made it a sensory bonanza. My wife and three sons accompanied me and enjoyed it so much that we did it again two nights later. The 1L dimpled mugs were awesome. The Dünkel was great. The food was perfect. Pretzels and wurst with the beer just made me happy. Like a kid in a candy store. Granted, the beer selection is somewhat limited but the beer is very good.
Absolutely a must in your beer life. If you are anywhere near Munich, make the pilgrimage and also check out the others in the neighborhood. Ayinger, Augustiner, Paulaner and Weisses are all nearby and worth the effort. (856 characters)

I've been to Munich several times and I love the Hofbrau house.

Loaded with tourists and locals alike, everyone is friendly and always willing to strike up a conversation. The food and service great, especially considering how much and fast they're churning it out (and if ever in Bavaria, make sure to try a schweinhaxe at some point - it's the pork eating equivalent of sex).

The original German umpa environment, like any such environment it can be dangerous if you try keeping your drinking up with the band, so pay attention how fast it's going down. Otherwise you may get to experience the restroom floor "vomitoriams" first hand. (639 characters)

I went to Munich for Oktobterfest in Sept. SO MUCH FUN! I camped out and meet some really cool local german college guys. We went here for a "mass" as they call it. Never heard the word "stein" come out of there mouth once. We got there and it was packed. Life music, chanting, the whole nine.

We looked around for a few minutes for a seat and found a table in the beer garden. It was amazing. I had the Hofbrau dunkel..an entire liter :) The menu is full of great german food aswell as beer. This place is awesome, the most famous beer hall in the entire country. YOU HAVE TO GO!!! (583 characters)

Oh, the Hofbrauhaus. What a place. I went here while I was in Munich for Oktoberfest, so it's a hard not to compare. However, for not being in the middle of Oktoberfest this place does a great job of keeping the atmosphere.
Much more closed in and tight feeling than one of the tents, but it's got the long tables, the band, the liter glasses and the strong women with quick feet.
A great atmosphere that gets you feeling good, so the slow start to our service felt longer than it was, but was easily forgiven.
I don't know much about their selection for food because we went in and just told them how many we needed. No more needed to be said.

A must see if you're in Munich and can't be in Oktoberfest at that exact moment. (727 characters)

The most famous and biggest beer garden in Munich. When i visited this brew house i was expecting to see lots of tourists and not see the traditional "German atmosphere" that exists in brew houses and beer gardens. I must admit though that i was very wrong. In fact we were the only tourists and the other people were German singing and shouting and getting drunk while enjoying their meals. Service was excellent and the food was simply excellent. I had the Pork and potato dumpling and it was the best dish of food i had in Munich (even better than the Schnitzel at Paulaner). I tried the "Original" beer at the Oktoberfest so i wanted to try another fresh beer of this brewery and i got the Münchner Kindl Weissbier. Excellent beer! A must visit when in Munich. (765 characters)

Well this place is great for the overall experience. It was everything I could have imagined. I didn't eat food so I can't really comment on that aspect, but I certainly drank some beer. It's an old style beer hall. It's loud, rambunctious, and pretty much just a free for all. Alot of picnic table style seating with benches, and you just sit wherever in traditional beer hall style. Waitstaff (beermaids) are in constant circulation to ensure you always have a fresh original or dunkel on hand. Magnificent in its simplicity. If you're in Munchen, go here, drink some beer, sit with strangers, and enjoy the atmosphere. (621 characters)

What a cool place this is. You have to go if your even near Munich just to say you went. It's a piece of history.

The place is huge and has the ultra long tables with friends and strangers alike sitting, laughing, and having a great time. I sat outside in the inner courtyard and enjoyed the nice, cool May air. The beer was great and came in those classic 1L dimpled mugs. Great for clinking together.

The service is as can be expected for a packed beer hall, so with that in mind it's stil a 4.5 for me. It's all part of the experience, especially since Germans aren't generally known for being all that customer-friendly. Exceptional giant pretzels, must try them. The bathrooms are a bit under par but they do come with their own cleaning lady. I had a very hard time peeing in front of some strange German woman, but I got over it quick since I went like 3 times due to all the beer I drank. (899 characters)

Spent a hot summer evening here during the 2013 heat wave. The atmosphere is amazing- a bit chaotic and packed but also jovial and friendly. If you want to go to a bavarian beer hall then you will find what you're looking for. Lots of tourists- but hey, you're probably one to them so stop whining. The beer is great. Service is good too- better than you'd expect given the chaos inside. Descent selection of their beers- about what you'd expect if you've been to some of other places in Germany. Food was delicious and there was lots of it. Lots of fun for any beer fan. (571 characters)

Unfortunately my opportunity to visit Munich was in December when all the beer gardens were closed. So what does that leave for the BA tourist? Well for one the Hofbrauhause. Regardless of season this is a must visit. Just the concept of a beer hall is so utterly awesome I don’t know why it is not done in the US. So this place is huge, can fit a 1000 people at least, all at long wooden tables. The place was always packed when I visited (twice) with a mix of tourists and locals. There is constantly a river of people flowing down the center of the building looking for a spot. The atmosphere is just great fun, the tables, the umpa band, the beer and pretzel maids, and oh yeah the liter steins. The only downfall to the atmosphere is the amount of tourism (but hey I was a tourist) that makes it hard to find a seat. The quality of beer is second to none. Drinking a liter is surprisingly not hard when the beer is as fresh and smooth as HB beers are. While there I tried 3 different beers, all excellent. HB does classic styles and does them amazingly well. They don’t need to try to be extreme when their standard beers set the bar for the style. Service was excellent, all the beer maids and men spoke excellent English although I tried to speak as much German as possible, and service was quick. Couldn’t find a thing to complain about. Selection was good, although I wished for more. They had about 4 styles of beer, all standard styles, but I was looking for something a little special, since it was xmas time I expected to find a seasonal, but there were none. In addition to the beers they had a list of beer cocktails, like mixing beer with lemonade, so I tried one, it was okay, nothing to rave about, stick to the dunkle. And the value was great, 6 euros for a liter. overall a place everyone must see and be sure to talk to the people you sit next to. I met some Italians and Germans who love to go to Las Vegas (they had some good stories) and don’t forget to toast with everyone at the table. That’s what the place is about, tons of people drinking and having a good time. (2,096 characters)

If you have to visit one place in Munich this is it! It is a huge place that has 2 main halls and a garden on the ground floor where hell is unleashed! You will find small tables where you can sit with your company, and big ones where you can join anyone that happens to be sitting there before you. You will find all kind of people there: From tourists to old Germans dressed in the traditional bavarian way. There is always a traditional live band that knows too well how to make the huge crowd get on the tables and start singing and dancing all together. What I liked the most is the friendly atmosphere: I was sitting on a big bench and had hust finished my 3rd "mass", so I ordered another one. While I was waiting the person sitting next to me poured some beer from his own glass to mine so that "you won't stay without beer until the next one comes". That was all I needed to llove with the people, the place, Bavaria and Germany in general.

You will find most of Hofbrau's beers on-tap but not bottled. The variety of food is not endless, but it will provide you just what you need (sausages, chicken, potato salad, pretzels) in excellent quality.

In few words: In this place you will have: Good beer, good food, good people and a hell of a good time! (1,262 characters)

This is like reviewing stairway to heaven as a good rock and roll song; you just need to experience it no matter how trite and stereotypical it may be. And once you do, you know where the hype comes from.
I visited here on a short but eventful weekend int he summer, after a bike tour and walk through the city. The wonderful facade greets you with open arms, as do most of the patrons you meet inside. The beer is great, hands down. Whether is be festbier or Hefe, they've been doing it for long enough that their famous reputation is deserved. The outside courtyard was packed and wild, but everyone was having a great time and conversing, occasionally singing. I got schnitzel (an addiction of mine) and it was pretty tasty, despite a pretty steep price. But its the Hofbräuhaus, its worth the price. The waitstaff were sometimes hard to find since they have to push through a sea of drunken beer-culture enthusiasts, and seemed slightly irritated when we didn't want to leave, but if they hadn't made me leave I think I'd still be there. Overall a must-see; a true archetype of beer culture. (1,097 characters)

I simply love this place and visited twice during my recent trip to Germany. This establishment is truly a beer mecca and is a must see if you're in Munich.

The Hofbräuhaus is a lively place and as soon as you walk in it is impossible not to be swept away by the upbeat atmosphere which is filled with an abundance of beer drinkers, traditional German music, and staff bustling about bringing people beers in large glasses. It is impressive how many of the large glasses some of the staff can carry at once. The selection isn't the biggest, but the beers offered are traditional German beers. I had the Hofbrau original and one of their darker beers as well. There is outdoor seating available which seems like it would be great in the warm weather (it was still a bit chilly when we were seated outside). The food was very good and I highly recommend the Mushroom Pot dish under the vegetarian section.

This place is not to be missed and I hope to go back again someday! (975 characters)

If you ever find yourself in Munich, you must visit the world famous Hofbrau House.

The atmosphere of this place is what makes it famous. This is a large area packed with people from all over the world. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The service was great as they got you your beer quickly. The selection offered includes all the major German styles of beer. I did not personally have the food, but from what I saw it looked promising. This is the type of place where you stop in for a beer and stay most of the day. A great place to drink and socialize. (561 characters)

Last went here in Sep. of 2007 prior to the start of Oktoberfest. This place is a huge beer party, kind of like a warm up for Oktoberfest. There are several areas to congregate but the main room has huge vaulted ceilings with long wooden tables. They serve all of their HB beers there and they have live music well into the night. You'll get your beers in liters but I think you can get smaller size if you're so inclined. People there are friendly, all ages, from all parts of the world. Most people are pretty drunk as was I. I was drinking the Dunkel and it went down smooth and was delicious. There are plenty of beer hauls in Munich and Germany but this is the only one I went to . . . I hear it's the most "touristy" but I can tell you it was certainly fun and I would highly recommend visiting it for the raucouos ambience alone. (836 characters)

Visited this place a few times over the years, amazing how it hasn't changed! The atmosphere is outstanding, with oompah bands playing and everyone just really enjoying themselves. The beer is great and food as well. So much culture, even if it a bit of a tourist trap. A must see if you are in Munich! (307 characters)

A wild place but quiet in March. Dopplebock and lager on tap along with Weizen in a bottle. Great food and the atmosphere in the courtyard was nicer being removed from the noise of the large hall. Service was great and the food also good, if you get a chance dine in the courtyard for quiet or in the main hall for noise. (321 characters)
