12.7oz bottle served in a Lindeman's flute glass. Bottle stamp says best before Jan 17, 2016. 4% ABV on back of bottle.
Appearance: Clear deep red with a light purple/red 1/16" thick persistent foam. Some thin strands of lacing here and there. Nice deep color.
Smell: Sour black cherry with the barest hint of mustiness and oak. There are some wine like smells in here as well - more noticable once the beer has breathed/warmed up a bit.
Taste: Tart cherry with a crisp and mildly bitter finish. Singular flavor with this beer - but with a bigger swallow some other hints of flavors come out, but with a sip it's nothing but tart cherry. This flavor just about dominates all else.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, a bit sticky at first but then it goes away.
Overall / Drinkability: Interesting, but I think I like Framboise better as a flavor for a fruit Lambic. When first poured, if I didn't know it was a beer I would have guessed I was served carbonated black tart cherry juice. As it warmed up and rested a bit, I could tell some other flavors were trying to get out from under the cherry, like the bitterness at the end which I thought was a hint of a spicy/earthy hop, but it was so hard to pull out I'm thinking it was my imagination. Great appearance, good aroma, but just okay in everything else. As for drinkability - when paired with food it's a nice drink (went well with chocolate pudding, I suspect it would be even better with chocolate cake) but by itself it's just okay as a sipper.

375ml bottle at the Malt House in Madison, WI. Poured into a Duvel tulip today, 1/27/2014.
App- dark brownish red body, minimal white head, looks syrupy. Not much retention, no lacing.
Smell- Medicinal, cough syrup, Robitussin. Some cherry flavor, extremely sweet.
Taste- Disgusting. Overly sweet with cherry makes it incredibly medicinal.
Mouthfeel- Medium-thick body, custardy. Had to choke half the bottle down. Luckily for me, another BA was sharing this bottle with me.
Overall- Disgusting example of a kriek. You can do way, way better than this with other shelf krieks.. even Lindeman makes a better one. Look for the likes of Hannsen's or Oude Beersel.
