served, at Kulminator, with great ritual and care, with the basket to preserve serving angle, and all. I must confess I am impressed by this ritual. smells like a perfect balance between beer and fruit, with characteristic lambic tartness and slight funk. this is my ideal version. great balance. delectable and addictive. dry finish. oh so good.

Bottle from Harvest Market
Pours a slightly murky reddish brown color with a decent sized off white heads that dissipates rather quickly. Aromas of raspberry jam, a hint of molasses, and a bit of earthy funk. The flavor Is lightly tart from the fruit with lots of berry flavor. Hints of dark caramelized sugars with a touch of citric tartness and earthy funk. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. Decent enough brew, but I felt it could have had more of a pucker factor.

375 mL bottle picked up at the LCBO (2012 vintage); best before Nov. 27 2018. I'm not much of a lambic buff, but as far as fruit beers go, the raspberry/framboise offerings tend to rank amongst my favourites. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a deep crimson-burgundy hue, technically clear but a little too dark to make much out through the glass. Seated atop the liquid is one finger of frothy, pink-tinged head that wilts rapidly over the next few minutes, resulting in a thin cap/collar and a few scant swaths of lacing. The aroma is decidedly fruity and somewhat reminiscent of red wine - dark cherry, raspberry, balsamic vinegar, oak barrel and tannic grape skin notes combine to form an intriguing, pleasant bouquet.

Tart raspberries are a dominant theme throughout the flavour profile, alongside lesser notes of sour cherry, vinegar and black currant. A little funkier than the other fruit lambics I've tried, and quite vinous as well, with a fruity, acidic aftertaste that lingers briefly. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation that provides a gentle, prickly feel on the palate. Fairly smooth, with the tart flavour encouraging rapid sips.

Final Grade: 3.84, a B+. Boon Framboise makes for a nice summer treat, occupying a comfortable middle ground between sweet, fruity flavoured lambics and the funky, sour ones at the opposite end of the spectrum. While this is a good beer with a pleasant, tart, vinous flavour, it's not exactly wowing me. I'd be lying if I said I planned to buy it again any time soon, mostly because it's a little pricy in this market, but given the lack of good lambics around here it's still worth a pick-up or two.

2012 bottle. From notes.

A - Red wine coloured pour, good carbonation, bright. One finger pink head with spotty lace and OK retention.

S - Sweet fruit, definite raspberry, fruit juice.

T - Raspberry, tart fruit juice, funk, earth.

M - Strong carbonation, light body, dry and mildly tart to finish.

O/D - Sweeter than some takes on the style, but good. Liked it but the tartness could have been amped up.

Nearly two fingers of fizzy light pink head sits on top of the beer. Its body is a striking scarlet red hue with plenty of clarity. Its fruity, dessert-like look can trick someone into thinking this is something other than a beer. I love it for its unique look.

Heaps of raspberry jam with a tart twist burst from the glass. There's a little hay and a touch of dry astringency. The nose lies heavily on the sweet, fruity, contrived end of the usually complex, wild, and funky Gueuze style.

Similar to the nose, the taste profile is full of sweet raspberries. The presence of its syrupy backing is lessened by its lively level of carbonation and tart twist. Grape skins come out at its peak but are short lived. A flash of damp breadiness makes its way into the finish.

Light bodied with a spritzy level of carbonation. Dry throughout with a clean finish.

I liken this to a summer spritzer as opposed to a traditional Lambic. It's quite tame on the more traditional characteristics of the style but at the same time it's very refreshing and perfect for a light, fruity, thirst quenching beer on a hot summer's day.

A - Very thin pinkish head that dissipates quickly. Looks like cranberry juice.

S - Raspberries, lot's and lot's of raspberries. Smells great.

T - Sour, raspberries, acidic. Refreshing.

M - lively carbonation and a dry finish.

O - A delicious fruit lambic that is very refreshing on a hot summers day.

Pours a nice and clear deep cherry with pinkish white head dissipating into a little ring on the glass.

Smells of raspberry and malt, quite a sweet nose with a tinge of acidity.

Quite sour with the right amount of fruit. A bit of bitterness and acidity in the finish. Very dry. The alcohol is very well hidden.

The mouth feel is quite acidic at first rendering a similar experience to biting into a lemon or lime. Very dry finish.

I'm growing to like the lambics/sours. This is a very nice raspberry lambic. I'd love to have it with a slice of chocolate cake!

Framboise Boon
Aged bottle

Pours a deep ruby color with a bit of haze and sediment. The aroma is full of raspberries and malty sugars. In the taste, tart raspberry and lemon flavor. There is a bit of oak but otherwise pretty jammy and slightly acetic. Has a slight musty quality and ever so faint bitterness about it but overall this reminds me of a wild raspberry champagne, not that Ive had one to compare. It is not as sweet as other berry lambics, which is refreshing here. I prefer this to the overly sweeter versions. This is a nice, balanced, lambic.
