Thanks to a very generous sourfest participant.

Pours a light gold with a bubbling white head.

Smells like unripe apples, heavy on the lemon, and a bit of yeasty funk.

Taste is very complex, very surprised to learn what brewery this was from. Heavy on the lemon (it dominates), but there's a sprinkling of green, just formed apples along with a surprising amount of fresh cut grass/hay with an overlaying spiderwebbed funkiness. The citrus complexity just lingers.

Very refreshing. Quite drinkable.

Vintage 2013 poured into a 3F Geuze tumbler.

Pours a hazy semi-clear gold with big 2.5 finger bubbly white head that leaves great lacing. Smell is oak, lemon, mild cider vinegar, light funk. Honestly not getting too much aromas. Taste is tons of oak, apples, green grapes, light lemons, light funk. Tons of oak in this one though. Mouthfeel is perfect. Soft carb, medium pucker and tartness, easy to drink.

Very nice geuze with a heavy influence of oak. Fun to see all the breweries blended together. Expensive bottle though.

2009 Vintage:

A: Slightly hazy golden body. Moderate sized head comprised of tiny packed bubbles. Slight lacing.

S: Subtle lactic funk, good citric zip cuts through a musty farmhouse musty complexion throughout.

T: Musty with a cutting lemon flavor as hinted at from the nose. Not particularly tart, but nice and funky.

M: Solid carbonation keeps the medium body moving from sip to sip.

D: A nice gueuze. My only real gripe is the price to quality ratio. The regular offerings from Cantillon, Girardin, and Drie Fonteinen are superior in nearly every facet.

A very careful pour still manages to produce four-fingers of head in my 25cl plus an additional almost two fingers above the rim. The head is a light tan hue and the beer is a grassy, pale amber hue that shows a nice orange-gold hue and a touch of haze when held up to the light. Some light, but nice lacing forms on the sides of my glass as the head slowly subsides. The aroma has a nice grassy funkiness to it that reminds me of a mix of hay, weeds, phenolic soaked cotton, musty damp horse blankets along with a requisite musky, almost dried sweat stench. The sharper notes in the nose are defined by the lactic acid, a hard urea-laced spicing, some phenolic wild mushroom notes. The finish has some nice pale grain and fresh crushed wheat character to it. This is actually on the funky side for a Gueuze, and I must say it is quite nice.

This beer has a nice, solid, almost bracing lactic sourness. This finishes with a nice spicy oak note as well as some tannic woody notes, both of which integrate quite well with the other flavors in this beer. A touch of urea, or cat-pee for the Lambic traditionalist, is found in the flavor. There are some grassy notes up front and in the middle that are separate from the hint of grain character that is left in this beer (though this seems to contribute some grassiness and a touch of pale grain in the finish; not as much as is found in the nose though). While this seems bone dry, some of the notes here contribute a fruitiness that reminds me of sour-apples, a distinct grapefruit note in the finish. The finish has a long, lingering, sort of cotton mouth astringency to it from both the oak and phenolic notes. This is musty flavored but not as strongly so as in the aroma; musky, Brettanomyces notes, and some old sweat soaked blanket notes are found here as well.

My second pour is still as carbonated as the first. I get to drinking this much sooner than my first pour and this literally explodes as it hits my tongue with a aggressive effervescent that turns the beer into foam as it rolls across my tongue. The grapefruit note starts to come out more as it warms, some Klockera perhaps, and there seems to be a nice toasted oak character to the finish now as well. Other fruit notes of ripe, but unsweet, quite aromatic, tart melon and perhaps a touch of pear also become more apparent as this warms and actually turn into quite the juicy fruit character.

I am so glad that my bottle has been cleaned of all the diacetyl that has been troubling some peoples bottles. Pediococcus is a prodigious diacetyl producer and Lambics definitely need time to reduce it back out. I am so glad that this turned out to be quite tasty. Man this is quite good, about as tart / sour as I could want with just enough funkiness to keep things interesting. This is a fantastic example of a Gueuze, at least this particular bottle is; if you are too worried just hold on to these for a 6 months or so (perhaps the international shipping helped my bottles).

750 ml bottle, 2009 vintage, Batch 1

Appearance is a golden yellow with an orange hue, thick and fluffy white head, great retention, lacing on the entire glass, clear as day with no sediment

Smell is gym socks, hay, funk, tangerine, nectarine, granny smith apple, tart cherries, wild yeast, and oak

Taste is tart up front with a lot of citrus, prickly tartness through, then funk in the finish, more and more fruit comes out as it warms, lemon zest and sour cherry dominate, very complex flavor, every other sip had a new flavor, lots of wild yeast in the finish, got even better as it warmed

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, great carbonation, lingering flavors, everything you could ever want in a gueuze, so much flavor kept me coming back for more

Overall this was a great collaboration between eight lambic makers in Belgium, exceeded my expectations, will probably get better and better with age, my bottle had a best by date of 2026, so eleven more years will probably turn this into a whale for a true sour beer lover

A: Pale orange color with a big head that leaves some lacings.

S: The smell is funky and slightly acidic. Notes of lemon, wood and spices. Mild but characterful.

T: Taste is very good. Very sour with notes of lemon and apples. An almost raw acidity. Notes of grass and wood. Lots of funk going on - barnyard, mud and hey. But the funk is obviously restrained by the acidity. The finish has a gentle grassy bitterness to it and notes of minerals. Unfortunately, the finish gets cut off by very lively and aggressive carbonation.

M: Medium body with a dry finish. Very effervescent, the carbonation actually kills the finish.

D: Good. Would guess this one would age gracefully.

750ml bottle at Waagstuck in Antwerp.

Clear peachy golden color, decent lacing.

In the nose; musty, goat, horse blanket, lemon, mint, eucalyptus.

Tart, musk, herbal, dusty yeast, marmalade, hint of bread, barn yard.

Quite amazing, every well balanced. If you see it, get it. Lots of fun to fun.

Clear gold and light amber body. Quickly forming, tall, and persistent white head. Spots of lacing left down the glass.

Bright, explosive tart and sour aroma: tart citrus (lemon), hay, pear, grass, earth and rock, musty funk.

Taste follows the aroma very similarly: huge sour and tart character, lots of lemon, earth and rock, grass, musty body and funk. A complete, sipping delight.

Light to medium bodied.

An incredible blend. I'm so glad I got to try this.

750ml caged and corked bottle, 2013 edition. We'll all get by, with a little help from our friends, it would seem.

This beer pours a hazy, medium golden yellow hue, with three fat fingers of rather puffy, tightly foamy, and ethereally creamy eggshell white head, which leaves a bit of low-lying, ebbing surface tension lace around the glass as things gradually recede.

It smells of sharp, acrid acetic acid, of the fruit-borne type, though said fruit is hard to immediately discern - raspberry, lemon (by default), and denuded cherries, I guess - moderately funky farmhouse yeast, bready pale malt, underripe red apples, a touch of wet, grainy wood, and somewhat surprising leafy, grassy hops. The taste is tart, sure, but in a pleasantly diffused sort of way - lemon juice, muddled black berry reduction, a hint of actual cold cooking vinegar - a more laid-back funky yeastiness than suggested by the nose, some sturdy bready, slightly caramel-tinged malt, still mixed and matched orchard fruit esters, subtle moist barrel staves, and generally still game leafy, grassy, and musty hops. No real sign of the elevated alcohol.

The carbonation is quite understated, manifesting in a plain Jane frothiness for the most part, the body a stocky medium weight for the style, and smoother than the norm, given the affable distraction of the usually disruptive souring contingent, which even leads to a small airy creaminess. It finishes off-dry, surprisingly, the fruitiness thrusting off the shackles of tartness, joining with the long-burdened malt, to make a go of this as an actually balanced beverage of sorts.

All those different inputs, as originally opined, must have some kind of middling, blending, and in the end, neutering effect, a concept which is evidently on full display here. Distinctly drinkable and approachable for the style (mere price taggery aside), this 'Gueze [sic] Tour' is exactly that - an introduction to the whole shebang, all at once, in a mildly dumbed-down, touristy incarnation. Doesn't mean it doesn't taste good, IMHO.

Pours gold with a slight haze. Champagne like head off the first pour, but settles pretty quickly.

Musty aroma. Nice helping of horse blanker, should be a funk fest. Rounded out with expected tart apple.

Sour apple right up front. Tartness gradually increases until it's rounded out by nice grain and just a touch of vanilla. Horse blanket throughout lets you know exactly what this is.

Carbonation really brings out the flavours on this one, alive in the mouth. Nice quenching finish.

I was excited for this one, and it didn't let me down. As other reviewers have noted, age helps this round out.

Cork ejects with a loud pop. Beer pours a creamy 2 finger white head with great retention. Beer is a clear goldenrod with a slight orange tint. Lacing is minimal. Some patches with no stick. Pretty good for the style.

Nose is sharp cheese, apricot, and wet hay. Some Brett characteristics also with some cobweb, bandaid, must, and yeast. Nice, but lacking a distinct funkiness.

Opens sharp hay, wet wood, cheese, and some spoiled apricot sweetness. Lemon citrus tartness lingers prominently in the background. Very sharp, stinging, spritzy yeast. Cheesy. End is some barrel characteristics and yeast film. Aftertaste is cobweb and band-aid. Delicious.

Light to medium bodied with low to moderate carbonation. Smooth with some bubbles in the mouth and oily and dry going down. Finish is dry with a dry, filmy aftertaste. Solid.

Had this side by side with the Cantillon Classic Gueuze and I'd have to say that I prefer this to the fresh gueuze. Funkier and with a more complex flavor profile. Feel ties everything together nicely too. Would love a bottle of this to age for a couple years.
