2009 bottle shared with mrand01.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with a rather large white head that recedes to leave some spotty lacing.

Aromas begin with lemon juice and lemon zest and sweet pilsnery, crackery maltiness. As it warms you some some vinegar notes with mild earthy and musty funk.

The tastes follow the nose with strong sour lemon and some light earthy funk. As it warms there is a bit of grassiness and musty damp oak.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Finish is mainly sour and dry but not intensely so.

Overall I enjoyed this Gueuze but it by no means is the best I have ever had. I am not sure of the price but I can't imagine it was cheap. For a style I don't gravitate to or often seek out, I can say that there are better examples which I hope to eventually have again, but this is not one of them,

Shared with MrKennedy and mulder1010. Reviewed from notes.

Heavily hazed apricot with a fast vanishing white head.

Lovely complex gueuze nose. Heady interplay of grapefruit peel, jalapeno, wild herbs, dried hay, sweaty funk and apricot. Occasional sweet high notes help to mitigate the sharp tartness.

Flavours display plenty of bright acidity, with lemon and grapefruit pith, green capsicum and sour sherbet dominating.

Medium bodied, with vibrant carbonation and some saliva stripping tartness at the finish.

Flamboyant and complex, with the odd harsh aspect, but great overall.

Drank from my Ciney sniffer, bottle No. 025733 at Bruges beertje

A - Pours a cloudy honey straw colour with a white fluffy head that retains well.

S - Plenty of horse blanket and earthiness.

T - Bret and sourness hits you with very nice balance and not overpowering. Hints of apple and plenty of fresh oak.

M - medium body with minimal carbonation.

O - Top class Geuze that is balanced and offers plenty. The body and carbonation are the highlight.

Pours into the glass a murky amber color a smallish off white head that quickly dissipates. Smells of sour and tart fruits, a bit of caramel and vinegar with a solid does of must and funk. The flavor is a hint of caramel sweetness up front that is quickly devoured by tart cherries and lemons. Lots of acid and a hint of vinegar with a mild amount of funky flavor. Crispy bubbly mouthfeel with a light to medium body and a solid shot of carbonation. Very nice geuze, quite complex, I wish I had a bottle or two to hold onto for a while.

This beer travelled from Brussels to the US via plane.

A: Hazy yellow pour with a few fingers of white head that lasts a nice amount of time, but strangely doesn't last that long.

S: This beer is crazy funky. I believe the word is horseblanket, but I think it hints towards barnyard funk. It isn't necessarily tart, but very funky.

T: The taste gets back to a bit of funk and a nice fruitiness actually. Funky absolutely, but tart with raspberries and cherries. Overall funky and interesting. I can't say that I understand what all of these beers add to the drink, but I can get a lot of lambic here. Very nice geuze.

MF: This is carbonated really well, which I wasn't expecting. I pretty much figured it would have been undercarbed. Very drinkable.

O: This beer was outstanding. If you can find this beer drink it.

Bottle pour at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

2009 vintage. Bottle # 14,760.

Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with some woody and slightly fruity aromas. Taste is much the same and has an acidic quality on the finish. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some solid aromas and flavors that make it easy to drink.

Bottle shared at the May 2012 iteration of the Santa Cruz tasting series. Golden color with a white froth. Lemons and stone fruit, citric earthy without too much sourness. Smooth and drinkable -- definitely not an enamel-melter -- mild by gueuze standards but still very well put together. Oaky bretty finish, hefty body.

2011 Batch.
Pour is pale yellow, lively carbonation and white bubbly head. The nose is very funky, tons of cob web with a nice rind like aroma. Hints of sweet lemon but very light. The flavor adds more balance and much more sweetness. The webby funk is decent, more sweetness with a light peppery spice. Peaches and a touch of lemon with a fairly sour spike to it. The mody is creamy and syrupy, decent carbonation and fairly dry. Very nice stuff.

2011 vintage. 750 ml bottle poured into small tulip. Cloudy straw, gold in color, small white head. Earthy, funky, horse blanket aroma. Some sweetness in aroma along with almost a salt aroma. Taste is puckering, tightening on the jowls. Not as sour as expected. Sticks to the back of the tongue. Interesting and tasty blend.

Thanks to Kramer for bringing this one to our recent gueuze tasting. 2009 bottle.

A - Pours hazy golden orange with a nice one finger tall white head leaving spotty lace down the glass.

S - Smells of lots of barnyard funk initially, plenty of lemon zest, wet hay and a bit of vinegar at the end. The balance of funk to fruit is very nice.

T - Starts off with a tart acidic kick quickly giving way to hints of bright lemon zest, barnyard funk and some light spice. Some dry oak tannins creep in after my first few sips. Finish is fairly dry, lingering on the pallet for some time.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Tart, dry feel lingering through the finish. Not as sour as some of the others, more balanced really.

O - I really enjoyed this one. It had a ton of complex flavors and the desired dry finish. All in all a very enjoyable gueuze. Thanks for sharing this one Kramer.

Nice head easily develops. Wedding lace white from this 2011 vintage. Low lacing, stickiness, and minimal retention.

Harsh, acidic, egg shells. Bits of hay. The smell is acetic lactic mix. More sharp than funky. It'll age well.

Sharp, lactic hay, straw, lemon zest, citric bitterness, just a simple nature. It's bright, its jumpy, its lingering sharp.
