375ml bottle of the 2007 vintage poured into a Gulden Draak tulip glass and consumed today, 5/29/2013. The cork pops out with a blast. Very cool.
Aroma: Earthy funk, some vinegar, a good bit of oak, cherries and a hint of peach. It smells rather syrupy and resinous somehow. (3.75)
Colour: Pours a clear dark amber, perhaps copper body with a massive fluffy white head that exceeds 3cm, and slowly dissipates into the body of the beer where it becomes just a bubbly collar. The lacing on this one is fairly decent. (4)
Flavour: Lots of oak and tart but sweet cherry up front, with hints of sweet peach combined with sour vinegar later on.. and the aftertaste is rather earthy. Overall is very acidic and sour, but with earthy effervescence that lingers a while. (4.25)
Mouthfeel: Thinner medium body, very well carbonated beer that leaves a strong earthy funk for an aftertaste that lingers for a good while. It hides the 8% well, and drinks like a sipper despite its lighter bodied characteristics. (4)
Overall: A nice geuze that was pleasant to drink. It's sour as hell, but also has a bit of sweetness to balance it out. The oak is very well present, and of course the funkiness is there. As a beginner to Belgian sours, I have to say that this could very well be a good beginner geuze. (4)
