Into a chalice, pours a darker-than-straw golden with hardly any head to speak of. Nothing groundbreaking here.

Nose is a big improvement with all those great funky horseblanket/Camembert aromas I love in a gueuze.

Big rush of quinine and bitter lime peel dominate until being supplanted by a hint of sherry vinegar. Aftertaste is a slightly metallic slant on tarragon. Exactly why I love this style.

Somewhat listless although the appearance warned me of this. Definitely a sipper; the person I went out with took a sip and quipped, "I'd need to pair this with food." I feel exactly the opposite, as this shares everything in common with great Italian aperitifs. It whets your appetite, makes your stomach rumbles and gets your taste buds salivating. Enjoyed at the Long Room.

2009 vintage poured into a goblet. thanks Eric!

A- slightly hazy mahogany body with a 1" white head that reduces to a ring. No lacing.

S- Funky belgian yeast, sour grapes, citrus, green apple, some oak and caramel.

T- Dry, citrus zest, tart green apple, citrus, leather, oak, caramel and rye on the finish.

M- crisp and refreshing, medium carbonation

Very enjoyable geuze.. balanced and just sour enough.

Date: 3/23/13
Location: Half-Time Mamaroneck
Glassware: Tulip
Appearance: Copper in color. Very hazy With a constant ring of carbonation at the top.
Aromatics: It has that lemon/sour one comes to expect from a gueze.
Flavor: Sour and tart. With the lemon and apple flavors that I could smell. There is a dryness in the background that tastes a bit like hay. The mouthfeel is dry and makes me want to drink more.
Finish: A very dry finish. With the fruit. But it is the same throughout.
Notes: Bottled 2009

SRM 8-9 (clear dark gold) that glows from within a Boon flute glass while a thin, frothy white head leaves little lacing. Constant random carbonation can be seen within the clear beer.

Barnyard aromas compete with fermenting orchard fruit. Earthy autumn aromas add a mixture of sweet and sour. Also, fresh-cut oak is present.

Quite sour, even for a Geuze. Something seems off, yet it is still pleasant. High acidity and strong fermented apple cider is joined with high sweetness as well. A long biting finish never quite leaves. Warmth brings out oak flavors.
Alcohol is as expected with a light body and ample carbonation that makes for a champagne-like experience. Balance may be lacking, but for a Geuze, that is acceptable. The finish is very dry.

This is a beer for sitting back after a long drive on a warm, sunny day. Let the quiet settle in and listen to gentle breezes while birds chirp in the trees.
