Poured into a plastic cup while walking into the Louisiana Renaissance Festival in Hammond.
Appearance: clear, light orange with a thick, 2 finger head that stays for the jousting.
Smell: love that Belgian funk! Cloves, caramel and yeast.
Taste: malt pops up, along with citrus, spices, vanilla and yeast. Slightly bitter finish. Yum!
Mouthfeel: medium; really pops on the tongue
Overall: this was my first foray into Belgian style ales about five years ago. I've never forgotten the surprise and delight at the discovery. Having one now instills my delight at this under appreciated taste. Leffe is a great stepping stone ale for those seeking the Belgian upgrade.
