Of the major Belgian expert beers, this one is very approachable. Though the Belgian candy sugar does give it a sweet savor, it tastes dry enough to be good with all but the spiciest foods (at which point it vanishes into the background). I get a little nuance of orange peel and coriander, and it pours with a respectable head.

Standard pour from a 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip... color is medium amber, and very clear - unlike many Belgian Ales, this has been filtered, so no yeast sediment. Head is white and falls rather quickly into a sudsy film on top, leaving light lacing on the glass.

Nose is malt up top, with biscuit-y and yeast-y tones. Some light fruit and spice notes. Pretty typical of the style. Certainly not unpleasant, but nothing that would jump out and grab one's attention.

Flavor is mainly sweet malts up front, with light spicy notes (cloves) and fruity esters, but nothing too prominent. A fairly strong green apple acidic tartness follows leading up to dry finish- very Belgian. As Abbey Ales go, this one's not too brutal on the alcohol (6.6% ABV).

Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is fairly mild. Very easy to drink -very easy to drink several of them in succession, in fact.

While not a remarkable beer by any stretch, Leffe is quite a good beer. It's not going to make you forget Duvel any time soon, but it's certainly pleasant and easy-going. Could also be a good baseline starter example for someone just starting to explore the Belgian Ale family, for just those reasons.

With the microbrew craze engulfing public perception it's easy to overlook this "abbey beer" of InBev. Leffe Blonde checks a lot of boxes for me personally; a pleasant fruity aroma, an appealing copper flavored color and a sweet taste that lingers on the tongue, the makings of a very drinkable, enjoyable beer.

This beer has scents very similar to a traditional German Hefeweizen; hints of banana and clove, sweet, not over-powering, that clings to the senses longer than most.

The first taste is subtle sweet bliss of golden grain and barley making no qualms that it's Belgian.

The appearance is an aesthetically pleasing copper gold with a foaming head that retains its character throughout.

Leffe Blonde is a beer for a wide-range of palates and enjoyably drinkable. Cheers!
