A pint at the southside Urban Diner. This release is paired with gourmet Nathan's hot dogs. Hook it up to my vein!
This beer appears (in a Granville Island glass - meh, it's busy in heeeere) a clear medium pink-tinged golden amber hue, with one finger of thinly foamy off-white head, which leaves some random streaky lace around the glass as it quickly fades out.
It smells of bready, doughy pale malt, a slight reduced raspberry fruitiness, some hard water notes, and leafy, weedy hops. The taste is doughy pastry malt, subtle green raspberry fruit, and some very tame earthy, leafy hops.
The bubbles are average, and decently supportive, the body medium light in weight, and really quite smooth. It finishes off-dry, the malt getting a tad flabby in its doughiness, the titular fruit fading out, and the hops still pretty much having phoned it in.
A decent fruit beer, loosely adhering to the base style, restrained and balanced, the 'donut' (what's with the Yankee spelling) malt thankfully not going all Krispy Kreme on me. Tasty, and drinkable due to the aforementioned mellowness. Bring on the Banh Mi frankfurter, and maybe one of those jelly doughnuts on the bartop platter. Oh, and another round...
