got this sixer in OK city. I'm not really sure if put to a test that I could tell the difference in a Vienna lager and an "American style" Marzen but I thought oktoberfest beers were called marzens but who cares about labels lets talk about beer.
This beer pours a cloudy brown color with a huge creamy head that leaves a ton of lace. The smell could almost be considerd a malt bomb. Super sweet malt character. Has an almost nutty flavor at times. The taste has almost too much malt sweetness to it for my liking. This beer has a nice smoothness to it most likely from the bottle conditioning. Not a bad beer. Of all the US made oktoberfest beers it reminds me most of St. Arnolds version. Nothing like the German versions but thats ok.

Picked this one up at Biergarten Liquors in Jenks today...

Pours an effervescent & murky apricot with a finger of cream colored head. Ohhh now I see it's bottle conditioned... Great head retention, usually a big bugaboo for this brewery, stays murky & pretty good lacing

S: Bready & fruitty, plus wet grain

T: Follows the nose, golden delicious apple & pear flavor, plus a touch of honeysuckle up front. Slight caramel flavor trickles through the fruittyness. some dryness & slight grainyness as well once warm. Finishes fruity, dry with some caramel flavor

Medium bodied, slight carbonation, pretty good balance

Great drinkability, not a perfect Vienna lager, but acquits itself very well. This will go into the fall rotation when ever I can pick this up. was pleasantly suprised by this. This was better than most of the O'Fests/Viennas I've had this fall

Pours to a clear light amber color (if you pour carefullly off the sediment) and permanent white head. Aroma is malty and a bit sharp (is there wheat in there?) with caramel notes. Flavor is semi-dry and malt oriented, with no discernable hop character other than balacing bitterness. Finishes dry and malty. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and fizzy. This is a bottle-conditioned malt-oriented amber lager with a distinctive original "choc-beer" personality. Not an extraordinary beer, but a solid citizen nonetheless.

Received from TTU94. Nothing like what you would get at Oktoberfest but a nice beer non the less.

Cloudy, hazy color...looked more like a wheat beer with an auburn hue. Head was highly carbonated and bubbly and disipated rather quickly. Did leave some nice lacing though.

Smell is lite, sweet malt with no hops.

Taste is also light and a bit sweet, but there is some hop bitterness that gets through and gives the beer an unexpected balance. The beer feels "wet" so I think it would be good in the summer when your looking to quench your thirst and have a beer.

All in all a pretty good brew. Not sure if it is true to the style, but I'm not that snobby so bottoms up.

Prosit!

Pours hazy orangish copper with a thin head.

The smell is of caramel. A touch of vinegar. A touch of earthiness.

The taste is of caramel sweetness with some earthy hops. A touch of vinegar makes me wonder about the freshness of this sample...But, no freshness date is to be found.

It has a decent, medium body. Smooth.

Easy enough to drink. Would like to try in the fall and re-rate.

Thanks to beertracker, who I'd like to do another trade with in the fall, as I'd like to try this again when it's fresh as it has something to it...

12oz bottle from beerhandy as part of BIF 24. Thanks for the opportunity.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" light tan head above the clear orangey amber brew. Head fades quickly down to an even layer of bubbles, with average lacing. Aroma is balanced, with a tending towards grain hulls. Taste follows the nose, but with a bit more tart fruitiness in the middle as I would want/expect. Closes slightly chalky. Mouthfeel and drinkability not too bad, but this one kind of let me down in the end.

Large creamy head head on a hazy brownish-amber beer.

Nice, rich aroma.

Flavor is pretty malty with just a hint of malt and caramel. Nice finish. Surprising hop bite.

On the negative side, I think this need more malty-caramel-maple notes.

Not a bad beer, but it is merely average compared to other Octoberfest beers.

Poured from bottle to a 13 oz glass tankard

A- Coppery amber color, quickly disappearing head, no lacing

S- fresh bread, a bit of caramel

T- Noticeable balancing hops, caramel, bready, a touch of apple cider seems to come through after a few sips.

M- smooth, well carbonated, not much body

O- Pretty decent session beer and fairly refreshing. Good if you are looking for refreshment and don't want to get too drunk.

Despite the name, BA has sense enough not to call this beer a Märzen but rather a Vienna Lager. Choc's cleverly named Choctoberfest put a smile on my face when I saw the bottle and it's brightly colored label at my local store, but once this brew made it's way into my bottle, and eventually my mouth, that smile quickly disappeared.

The look of the beer may be the one thing Choc got right on this one. It is dark and inviting, and despite the sweet smell you get, you could easily mistake a glass of this to be an actual malty Oktoberfest brew by appearance alone. The taste is what destroys this beer though, and that's a pretty important category in my book. The beer contains very little malt, or malt that one can really taste and decipher, and a whole lot of sweetness. With little to no bitterness, the brew actually tastes more like a sweetened ice tea than a Märzen or even a quality lager. This is the worst Choc beer that I've ever consumed. More bite and a lot less sweetness would go a long way towards improving this one.

P: Cloudy light orange copper color with a thin bubbly head that vanishes quick.

S: Pilsner malt, powdery yeast, subtle citrus oil, cereal grains, and fresh bread.

T/M: Faint toasted malt, tangy citrus, metal, bitter apple peels, spiced rum and burnt herbs. Medium sticky mouthfeel gentle carbonation. Finishes chalky and has an awful aftertaste that I can't quite make out.

O: Not one that I will revisit and I'm kinda upset because I've been waiting to try this. Powdery yeast and burnt herbs with a roughly put together. The flavors are there but the execution was off.

Thanks TheHand for this in a trade.

Appearance: Poured from a 12oz.bottle into a pint glass. Cloudy orange in color.

Smell: Very malty with some roasted grain.

Taste: A smooth drinking lager here. Some caramel malt makes an appearance. Also elements of roasted grains. Hops are tea like and the overall finish is sweet.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, crisp and refreshing.

Overall: This is a pretty solid Vienna lager. I wish more widely available lagers tasted this good.

Thanks to Beertracker for another brew in my Okie-beer care package!

A-Hazy deep reddish orange copper body. Medium beige head with a creamy consistency. Head stuck around and left nice lacing.

S-Light, sweet caramel malt with just a hint of sour mash.

T-Sweet roasted caramel with a hint of sour apple. Rather unidimensional but flavourful nonetheless.

M-Medium-light body even bordering on light and a bit thin. Would like a bit more malt backbone to beef up the feel with this one. Light dryness in the finish.

D-Not my favorite style to begin with but save for the light mouthfeel this one has a nice sour tinged roasted caramel malt flavour...at least enough to hold my interest.

Pours a dark orange, hazy from being unfiltered. Has a large tan head. Smells earthy. Taste is quite smooth, almost has a lemony, citrus like taste. A bit tart and metallic too. Almost has an ale like quality. Very unique for a lager. Good mouthfeel, carbonation is good. Quite drinkable too, I could drink several of these. Bonus points for being bottle conditioned. I don't think I've had a bottle conditioned lager before so this is pretty cool.

Thanks goes out to Beertracker for this brew.

Pours a cloudy dark orange color, nice carbonation, very nice thick creamy off-white head, tons of creamy sticky lacing follows. The nose is malty, slightly spicy, and a good dose of caramel. The taste is slightly sweet, malty, spicy, and some caramel. Medium body. Very drinkable, this is a very tasty Vienna Lager, would buy if it was available in my area, recommended.
