12oz screwtop bottle received in trade poured into a Portsmouth goblet. No freshness date found on the bottle.

A - Pours a thin, translucent almost perfectly black beer. No head whatsoever, only the faintest of collars around the edge of the glass. Does show signs of carbonation.

S - Dark, burnt malts, black patent for sure. Cold black coffee in look and aroma. Getting no hop aroma at all, and no sweetness from the malt either. As it warms a sour acetic acid smell starts to rise up.

T - Bitter and sour at the same time. Not sure about this one - might be a bad bottle (low carbonation and sourness makes me wonder). Burnt, dark roasted Starbucks-like coffee flavor, but this is masked heavily by the sourness on top. No hops detected.

M - Light, thinnish body. Carbonation is present, but minimal. Sourness pervades the mouth leaving a dry, parched feeling.

D - Really thinking this is a bad bottle. Drinkability is minimal in this state...hope this is a bad bottle. Would like to try this one again to give it a fair chance. I have never had this one before, so have no reference point for whether it is "supposed" to be like this or not.

If I get another chance, I would like to review this one again.

Received in trade from a generous soul who's name was not written down and is forever lost in my clouded mind. Thank you for the opportunity just the same.
Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown color with a thinnish off white head that quickly dissipates. Smells of caramel and brown sugar with a hint of chocolates and sulfur. Faint earthy hops try to provide balance but can't muster the strength to battle the maltiness of this brew. The flavor follows the aroma with sugary malt and a hint of chocolate and some miner off flavors. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet crisp mouthfeel. Decent beer, but really nothing special. Thanks for the state tick, but not a great beer for the style.

Pours opaque brown color with a lot of sediment floating in it; creamy head fades fast and leaves a ring around the top with very little lacing. This looks like a stout with no head after it settles.

Smells of roasted malt, grains, light caramel, faint burnt wood, light yeast and light hops; the malty sweetness is the strongest part of the aroma.

Tastes of roasted malt, burnt grains, light caramel, smoked or burnt wood, yeast, light hops and a little citrus zest that leaves a slight bitter pucker; malty, smoky flavor overall that's decent, but not very complex. Heavy body with medium carbonation and a light, smooth mouthfeel. Overall a decent beer.

Thanks willandperry for this beer, needless to say we don't get this one in Virginia.

A - dark brown almost black, when first poured, lot of head, calmed down after a few minutes where it almost looked like meringue on a pie
S - Not a lot of smell from this one, faint hint of smokiness
T - Hint of chocolate, very light taste
M - Very tasty beer, nothing overbearing, could easily be a session beer

O - Good beer, glad to have the chance to try it and would definitely like another, hint, hint, like to give other beers from this brewery a shot.
