A - Poured dark, nearly opaque, with a nice creamy head. There were dark ruby tones around the edges and head fell to a covering after a few minutes.

S - Aroma dominated by roasted and chocolate malts and that is about it.

T - Like the aroma lots of roasted and chocolate malts. Very much like a porter but quite clean tasting. Was pleased with the balance, the roasted and chocolate malt has with the base. Not overpowering and lends a good flavor without trying to knock you over with it.

M - Dry and smooth, feels fairly attenuated and not heavy.

D - Nice flavors, not overpowering, not a lot of hop bitterness or flavor...nothing over the top. All this makes the beer very drinkable.

pours a thin red orangeish black with a heavy thick tan head that disapers to a thin lasing on the glass, the taste is rich carmal and chocalat malts and powerfull hops that are kind of piney also hints of coffiee. the malt starts off sweet then gets sour and is overpowered by bitter. very little carbonaation in this one for a lager, this is a decant beer that i got in a bif that i am glad to have had a chance to try, would love to have more some day

This one's been in my fridge for over a year thanks to a trade extra (lost track of who) and am now finally getting around to it.

Sam Adams perfect glass. Dark with dark brown streaks when held up to the light. Very thin beige head. Beautiful roast aroma.

Bonus for the label with the homebrew history and story behind the name. This is something I really appreciate that Choc does on their beers.

Wonderful roasted flavor with clean, dry finish that washes away aforementioned flavor. I really enjoyed this dynamic of this beer.
Last ¼ has a chocolate aroma.

I'm amazed that this comes in at a B- overall on BA. Perhaps I'm not completely up to the style guidelines for this one, but I prefer to judge a beer on how I enjoyed it rather than style.

12 ounce stubby bottle. The label classifies this as a black lager, and the pour doesn’t disappoint. The color is a dark brown bordering on black, with a slight head that is more foamy than it is creamy. Head retention is better than what I’ve seen in other Choc beers. Likewise the aroma is strong, with some notes of coffee – specifically dark and earthy like coffee grounds. Some chocolate is there but it’s a supporting note and not the main focus. The first taste reveals a charbroiled meat, caramelized steak like afterfinish. One thing I can say for the Choc beers: The flavor profiles are certainly unique. Further exploration of the taste profile yields a nice chocolate note that really shines at the end of the taste. Toasted malt is present throughout. My only complaint is that I’d like this beer to be more chewy, as the relatively thin body sort of washes away under the complex flavor profile. The carbonation seems to be a little heavy handed as well. This is a beer that I think could benefit from a bit more of an aggressive streak, as the flavors would work great in a robust Baltic Porter or Russian Imperial Stout. Here however, they all come rushing out in the beginning but are washed away much too quickly.

Thanks to coldmeat23 for hooking it up.
Poured into a pint glass.

A: Pours a DEEP brown with dark ruby highlights around the edges. About a half finger of foam fades quickly leaving almost nothing on top and no lacing. Kinda looks like a Coke or Root Beer.

S: All I can smell is chocolate. Wow.

T: Big chocolate up front, followed by lots of roasted barley and a little bit of earthy hops.

M: Very chewy for a low abv beer. Also quite smooth considering the relatively high carbonation. Cleanses the palate nicely while leaving a just right feel on the tongue.

D: A very nice, mildly sessionable beer. Would go great with certain food/dessert pairings. One of the more enjoyable lagers I've had. Mmm

A - Poured out a dark dark brown color with a nice tan head. Left decent lacing around the rim.

S - Lots of roasted malts and chocolate. Some dark fruits as well. A faint caramel scent also.

T - Nice toasted malts and caramel sweets. It has a dark fruit sourness slightly and a touch of bitter chocolate..

M - Medium bodied and very crisp Slightly tingly and alive in the mouth..

D - Very tasty, but not what I expected as a scwarzbier. Overall pretty decent stuff.

Pours a dark black with a quick fading tan coarse head. Smells of bittersweet chocolate, roastedness, and some hops. Taste is tight and somewhat complex. Initially presents with a dark silky roastedness with some more chocolatiness that transitions quickly to tingly, spicy hop notes. The finish lingers for a bit. A good Schwarzbier and a nice offering from Choc. Definitely worth checking out.

I always love trying to find local Oklahoma beers and I picked up a 6 pack of this up at Joe's Place in Norman. Pours a dark brown with a thin bubbly head with no lacing. Smelled mildly of coffee, sweet chocolate, caramel. Tasted like a mix of a porter and a pilsner if you ask me. All the other Schwarzbiers I have had don't taste like this. It was good though.

pours very dark, some light is visible through the glass revealing some sediment, and a burnt caramel color. poured a loud, fizzy off white head that dissipated quickly, very little lacing.

some roasted malts in the smell, a faint smell of coffee with a touch of molasses

Not too complex on the taste, some burnt bitter as others have mentioned, next to no sweetness. it tastes like it's missing something, i expected something maltier.

light-medium bodied, moderate carbonation, and quite smooth.

The beer is pretty sessionable, drinks easy.

Had on tap at McNellie's in Tulsa. Dark in the pint with a small off white head ring around the top of the glass.

Smells of roasted malt and chocolate.

Great full flavor here, yet very light and easy to drink. Chocolate, coffee beans, roast malt and bread crust.

I was very impressed by this one. Had the big flavor of a robust porter with a light body that was very drinkable. Could've sessioned these all night.

There is a dark brown color to it. Light passes through it, but you can't see what is on the other side of the glass clearly. It's dark enough that I can't tell if there is any cloudiness to it. The head was about quarter of an inch thick and consisted of tiny tan bubbles that gave it a thick and creamy appearance. It slowly faded to a thin film on the top of the beer. There is a bit of lacing on the side of the glass, but not much.

It has a nice roasted chocolate and caramel malt sent to it, just as the label describes. There is a touch of a coffee scent to it as well. You can also detect just a hint of hops. The smell is a pretty good indicator of the taste. The chocolate and roasted malts really come through. There is a slight mineral water taste to it. It finishes with a mild hoppiness. As the beer starts to warm, the hop flavors start to be more noticeable.

This is a medium bodied beer. The carbonation bites a little on the tongue.

(12 oz. bottle into mug) Poured a rich black color with a creamy tan head that left little to no lacing on the glass. Nose was heavy with a toasted chocolate and caramel, with a hint of coffee. Drink was surprisingly smooth, and unlike other schwarzbiers I have tried, the roast was not overpowering, but well proportioned with the other flavors. As the glass warmed a little, this smoky flavor faded, and the chocolate malt took the fore. A very very refreshing drink after my meal. The perfect pick me up on a snowy day!

A - Poured dark with a tan head that's easy to create. Foam retention is good with light lacing.
S - Overwhelming roasted and chocolate aroma. Smells very sweet.
T - Slightly bitter finish with a lingering aftertaste of roasted malt. Again, Sweet.
M - Medium to full body with a medium carbonation. Smooth.
D - Would purchase again. This beer has first-sip likeability if you're in the mood for sweet. Very easy to drink and a good transition beer to the darker side.
