Sampled Lunch on August 15th following the Maltose Falcons Sunfest party.

A fairly large establsihment, its a two unit bit of a strip mall in old Ojai. Large stainless steel tanks are stashed behind the bar which occupies the left half of the resturant. The right side is completely occupied by a wide open dual layer dining room.

While I a gree that the beer isn't the greatest I've ever had in a brewpub, Alex the brewer and barternder (on a lazy Sunday morning making a mean Bloody Mary) makes the area worth a visit.

Oh and the food means serious business. (Good spicy pizza I tell ya)

I've given this brewpub 2 tries and I will not give them the chance to offend my palate again. I was very exited to learn of its existence. It is located in Ojai (pronounced OH-hi), a great, if not elitist, art community in the mountains above Santa Barbara, CA. I figured - hey, they've mastered Oil and Sculpture, lets see what they can do with beer.

I found out that even though art is subjective, it is still possible to tell the good from the bad. Every beer here is bad, minus one drinkable one. I am a fairly amateur brewer, about 20 batches or so, but i've luckily pulled out a fair amount of better brews than this brewer. I am not saying i could do his job. I have no idea what brewing on that scale entails, but I will say, a brewer should know his business before he controls the total line up of a brewpub.

The food here is not impressive. Stay away from the fish tacos and turkey sandwich. My family members had burgers and they seemed to like them, but hey, how can you screw up a burger?

In summary, I really, really wanted to like this place. Its within walking distance of her house, a nice community and good service, but i would most certainly skip over this joint and go to the local Supermarket and get some better beer in a bottle.
