Out of the two beers I tried here this one was tied for first haha. Poured a dark brown in color with low carbonation and a minimalhead. Very goo nose and taste that I cant describe other than fruity and rather complex(not a belgian drinker)Worth a try for sure.

On-tap at The Brewhouse, Santa Barbara, CA

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that left a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of raisins are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of dark malts along with notes of dark fruits—raisins seem to stand out in particular. Only a slight amount of sweetness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes like a hybrid between a Belgian Stout and a Dubbel—it's not as sweet as most dubbels.

Pours a dark brown color with a very small off-white head. Quite sweet on the nose. Brown sugar, toffee, and lots of dark fruits. Plums, raisins, and a bit of grape. There's a hint of bubblegum and clove to it, too. The flavor has a nice date note to it along with plum and raisin. Lots of toffee, caramel, and brown sugar to it as well. Undertones of banana, bubblegum, and spice as well. Could use a little more carbonation.

Felt like gettig a beer with some kick to celebrate being on vacation, this did the trick. Came in a tulip glass, brew was very dark brown, almost black. The aroma was full of plumb and maybe had a touch of floral. The taste was terrific! Plumb, toffee, and a touch of melon. It was nice and thick and seemed to stick to my tongue a bit afterwards. This wasa good one to sit back and savor as it warmed up. The nachos go good with this.

Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown with a small head. Caramelized sugars and light fruity notes in the aroma, which is rather light on the whole. The flavor is rich, with caramel, toffee, brown sugar, chocolate and some berry fruitiness. Medium-full bodied with lively carbonation. Could be a little dryer, but the full, sweet flavors work pretty well.

Draft at brewery, 02/18/08. ABV 8.8% for this batch.

Opaque and very dark brown: prune juice colored. Still has a little foam on surface after a while. Roasted, sweet malty aroma. Flavor is sweet with molasses and maybe chicory notes. Yeasty. Peppery aftertaste.

Well-executed.

Not a bad dubbel at all. Served too cold as is common, so make sure to let this warm up if you try it.

A: Dark brown with some red, no head (ehh, served that cold, not surprising there was no head).

S: Seemed to have some good Belgian candi sugar-like aromas - maybe a bit of molasses too.

T: Nice, decently rich dubbel. A not overpowering or thick sweetness - candi sugar, caramel, maybe some orange.

M: Just thick enough, but never syrupy. As many a good dubbel are. Slightly more carbonation than most true Beglian dubbels, but it works well enough here. And warmed up, there is less carbonation bite.

D: Pretty high. Both flavor and mouthfeel contribute to drinkability. While you couldn't have too many in one sitting, it would be easy enough to enjoy a few.

Well done, Brewhouse. It's not in the same class as the world-class dubbels, but it's a very competent attempt.

Recommended.

My favorite beer at this place. Polished off a growler of it last night in a few hours.

Dark brown in color with low carbonation. No much head at all when poured in a Chimay chalice. Very good smell to it and a unique taste that I love.

I am bad at describing beer, but just go try it.

This place is off the beaten path in Santa Barbara and worth the trip, if you can find it. Try the gorgonzola chips and the $3.95 hot dog and 16oz. house brew from 4pm-6pm (very awesome deal). Growler fills are $8 or $12 if you don't have your own growler.
